One of the most capable off-road pickups, the 2008 Toyota Tacoma is available in a wide range of body styles and configurations to suit the tastes of adventure enthusiasts, street racers, and anyone who wants a rugged, dependable truck.

The Tacoma is available in three body styles – Regular Cab, Access Cab with rear-hinged half-doors, and Double Cab with four front-hinged doors. In addition, there are four different trim levels – the flexible 4x2, sporty PreRunner, rugged 4x4, and street racer X-Runner. Two engines are available – a 2.7 liter 4-cylinder with 159 horsepower, which is suitable for light towing and work duties, and a robust 4.0 liter V6 with 236 horsepower that turns the Tacoma into a true workhorse. A variety of automatic and manual transmissions are available, depending on the trim level.

4x4 models have the 4WDemand system, with part-time 4-wheel drive and a 2-speed electronically-controlled transfer case, which can be switched between high and low ranges. Three rear differentials are available – creating serious off-road traction or amazing on-road grip. An X-brace tuned suspension with Bilstein® shocks and rear stabilizer bar makes the Tacoma a rock-solid trail runner.

A range of alloy wheels and all-terrain or street tires are available, depending on your needs. The durable, fiber-reinforced sheet-molded composite inner pickup bed is tough and strong, handling a variety of loads. The deck rail system can secure three mountain bikes in the rear bed, each rail able to hold up to 440 lbs. An available 115V/400-watt deck-mounted power outlet adds flexibility to outdoor adventures, allowing powered electronics and tools to be plugged in.

Inside, the Tacoma features an optional JBL® CD player with 6-disc changer and amplifier for serious tunes. A standard tilt-telescoping wheel and available air conditioning make the drive more comfortable. Access Cab or Double Cab models feature rear seat heat ducts to keep rear occupants warm.
