The current-generation Toyota RAV4 enters its seventh model year on the market, but buyers don’t seem to care. Toyota’s compact SUV is the third bestselling vehicle in the U.S through the first three quarters of 2024. With that sort of momentum, Toyota is changing very little about the RAV4 for the 2025 model year, only pruning the Adventure and TRD Off-Road trim levels from the lineup.
Powertrain Specs and MPG Toyota offers the RAV4 with a gas engine, hybrid powertrain or plug-in hybrid system. (You can read about the 2025 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid here.) The non-hybrid RAV4 uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 203 horsepower and 184 pounds-feet of torque; it’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available for $1,400 on every trim level.
Official EPA ratings for the 2025 are not yet available, but the front-drive 2024 RAV4 returns an EPA-rated 27/35/30 mpg city/highway/combined in the LE and Limited trim levels and 27/34/30 mpg in the XLE and XLE Premium. AWD efficiency ranges from 27/34/30 mpg in the LE and 25/33/28 mpg in the Limited.
The RAV4 Hybrid uses a version of the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder; it is combined with two electric motors and a continuously variable automatic transmission for standard AWD. Total system output is 219 hp. Most versions of the RAV4 Hybrid get an EPA-rated 41/38/39 mpg city/highway/combined, while the off-road-oriented Woodland Edition returns 38/35/37 mpg.

Safety Features and Trim Levels Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard on every 2025 RAV4. It includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, emergency steering assist, adaptive cruise control, lane departure prevention, lane-centering steering, automatic high beams and road-sign recognition. Blind spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on the XLE and above for both powertrains, and a 360-degree camera system is an option on the RAV4 Hybrid XSE and Limited.
The entry-level RAV4 LE rides on 17-inch steel wheels and features LED exterior lighting, cloth seating, manually adjustable front seats, six speakers, and an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The XLE adds blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, 17-inch aluminum wheels, upgraded LED headlights, heated side mirrors, and keyless entry and starting. Step up to XLE Premium and you get 19-inch wheels, LED foglights, a moonroof, a power liftgate, synthetic leather and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.
At the top of the non-hybrid range, the Limited features silver accents on the front and rear bumpers and a unique grille, as well as front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking. Its cabin includes heated and ventilated front seats, a power-adjustable passenger seat, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.5-inch touchscreen with an 11-speaker JBL sound system.
In the RAV4 Hybrid, the LE, XLE, Premium and Limited trims roughly parallel their non-hybrid counterparts, although the hybrid XLE Premium rides on 18-inch wheels instead of the regular Premium’s 19s.
The hybrid’s unique trim levels represent two different interpretations of the word “sport.” The Woodland is aimed at light off-roading/dirt-roading, with bronze 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, unique suspension and AWD system tuning, and black exterior accents. The SE and XSE ride on a suspension tuned for on-road performance and feature black 18-inch wheels and blue interior accents and stitching. The XSE adds a two-tone exterior with a black roof and black trim, a power liftgate, synthetic leather (still with blue stitching) and blue ambient lighting.
