New/Notable:
- New expressive exterior styling and upgraded interior materials
- Four-cylinder or V-6 power
- Lots of new technology and safety features added as well
Two years out from its last redesign, the 2015 Toyota Camry is due for a few updates but Toyota went above and beyond, completely changing the midsize sedan’s styling and adding new technology in the form of both safety and in-cabin features.
The Camry has all new sheet metal, with all of the body panels being replaced with the exception of the roof. Up front the changes are most apparent, where the Camry gets a new giant front grille that flares out as it gets lower giving the sedan a new visual signature. The grille is black in all applications, but on the “sporty” SE and brand-new XSE trims gets an attractive honeycombed treatment. The headlights and taillights have also been reworked, with halogen headlights standard and standard LED daytime running lights for the XSE and XLE (LED headlights are optional). All the wheels have new designs; 16-inch steel wheels are standard on base LE models, while 17- and 18-inch alloys are featured on higher trim levels.
Under the hood, the 2015 Camry features the same engine options as last year. The base engine is a 178-hp, 2.5-liter four-cylinder, while those who want more power can opt for a 268-hp, 3.5-liter V-6. Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels. With the powertrains being unchanged, the Camry’s fuel economy is also unmoved: 25/35 mpg city/highway on four-cylinder models and 21/31 mpg with the thirstier V-6.
Inside, the Camry gets a restyled center console and updated technology and better cabin materials which give it an air of refinement, and makes the Camry more competitive in this hotly contested segment. Standard features include a 60/40-split folding rear seat, power front seats, air conditioning, and an Entune audio system that accepts voice commands and adds a 6.1-inch touchscreen display, USB port, and Bluetooth connectivity. Higher trim levels add leather upholstery, automatic climate control, navigation, and new for 2015, a wireless charging pad that is compatible with many smartphones.
New safety technology has also been added to the 2015 Camry, including adaptive cruise control, a pre-collision system that can automatically apply the brakes to avoid a front collision, lane departure warning, and automatic high beams. A rearview camera is newly standard on all trim levels as well, along with ten airbags, electronic stability control, and antilock brakes.
