Great Budget Family Van

by 1911garand from Minneapolis, Minnesota | October 02, 2019

We purchased a brand new (30 miles) 2017 Grand Caravan (base model) in 2018 for $17k + TTL. Amazing deal! The interior design is perfect - simple and useful. Definitely not a fancy or luxurious van in any way. The infotainment isn't the best, but this is a budget family van. With the stow and go seat tubs, we can take a family of 6 on vacation without issue. Great power with the standard 3.6 V6, it is a sleeper with over 280hp! Our van also came with the blacked-out headlamps, grill, and rims which makes this boring van look good. The van came with Michelin tires with is a huge plus. The only real negative is that the van DID NOT come with a spare tire, which is a bad joke. Needed to take it to the dealer one time because the transmission wasn't shifting correctly. The dealer re-flashed the ECU and it is all fixed, 11K miles on it so far without any real issues. Average MPG is around 21-24. This is a good budget van. Change the oil and transmission fluid regularly and getting 250K wont be an issue.

Very good buy

The minivan is what I was looking for. It is comfortable, great fuel mileage, I like the interior and love the stow and go seats.

2017 Dodge Grand Caravan Overview

The 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan is a family minivan that seats up to 7 passengers across 3 rows. It competes with the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, and Kia Sedona. This year, it remains largely unchanged, but the trims have been simplified to four models: the SE, SE Plus, SXT, and GT. Gone are the AVP and R/T trims. The base SE model is also $1,100 less than the 2016 SE model.

The Grand Caravan is distinguished by its large, crosshair front grille that is found on other Dodge cars.   It has a more chiseled appearance, thanks to its sleek, straight body lines and bezeled fenders. The B- and C-pillars are blacked out. Power/heated side mirrors come standard. Available features include fully automatic headlights, front fog lights, dual side passenger power-sliding doors, a power liftgate, and 17-inch aluminum wheels.

Under the hood, the Grand Caravan is powered by a standard 283-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Fuel economy for the Grand Caravan is an EPA-estimated 17/25 mpg city/highway.

Inside, the Grand Caravan has a premium cloth cabin with standard second-row captain’s chairs and a 60/40-split folding third-row bench seat. Dodge uses a unique seating/storage system called “Super Stow ‘n Go” that allows the rear passenger seats to fold into the floor. Maximum cargo capacity is 143 cubic feet with the second- and third-row seats folded down. The center stack features a new standard audio system that includes a 6.5-inch touchscreen radio. It can be upgraded to include an integrated navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, and a DVD entertainment system. Standard features include air conditioning, power windows/locks, remote keyless entry, and cruise control. Available features include leather upholstery, power/heated front seats, heated second-row seats, remote start, and tri-zone automatic climate control.

The Grand Caravan earned a 4- out of 5-star overall crash test safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Standard safety features include a 7-airbag system, antilock brakes, an electronic stability system, trailer sway dampening, a backup camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available features include a reverse sensing system, a blindspot monitoring system, and rear cross-traffic alert.
