A service nightmare, stay away!

I purchased the X5 40e and it was nothing but headaches. Check engine lights 4 different times, 5 different airbag lights, suspension went down in the back, in 30k miles it literally ate 3 sets of tires. Yes, 3 sets (need changed every 10-12k miles). Service took on average 10 days as BMW dealers are scared to work on edrive vehicles, brought it in for check engine light and they broke the air condition which made them hold it another week. BMW USA was the worst dealing with, gave zero assistance. Sad thing is as a big BMW fan my whole life and former BMW mechanic that has owned classics and other generations I will never be back. Would have been a customer for life but never again. Be smart and support Detroit, they appreciate the business unlike BMW.

Nice car

It is a really nice car and has saved me quite a bit of gas money. I bought one for my wife as well. It also came with a tax credit.

I should have researched the 2018 X5 EDrive

by Riverkeeper from Charlotte NC | March 10, 2019

I Was expecting better mileage than my previous 2013 X5 Diesel. Electric mode is quickly drained going short distances and far from the advertised 52 mpg. Considering the difference in cost and some functionality, the X5 Diesel is a better option. The engine light has come on 4X’s after less than 4000 miles, consequently it has been in Service for weeks at a time and they were unable to diagnosis the problem. Needless to say I am concerned on reliability to drive the car a long distance.
