2008 Honda CR-V Overview
One of the first examples of a compact SUV, the CR-V was introduced in 1997, melding the cargo capacity of a SUV with the drivability of a passenger car. It was a huge success, and since then, other manufacturers have followed in its footsteps. The 2008 Honda CR-V is substantially bigger and more luxurious than the original, but nonetheless retains the character and dynamics that made the original a success. Available in two-wheel drive or Real-Time four-wheel drive, the CR-V comes in three trim lines – the capable LX, the more upscale EX, and luxurious EX-L. All models share the same 166 horsepower 4-cylinder engine, which is lively enough to provide peppy acceleration, yet return good fuel economy. Two-wheel drive models have an EPA rating of 20 MPG city and 27 MPG highway. A 5-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and features Grade Logic Control, which helps to prevent excessive gear-hunting when going uphill or driving back down. With a 5-star frontal and side impact crash test rating, the CR-V is a stellar performer when it comes to safety. Standard dual front and side curtain airbags with rollover sensor protect all passengers in the event of a collision. Vehicle stability assist with traction control aids the driver with vehicle control if wheel slippage is detected. The standard anti-lock braking system provides additional stopping power and prevents wheel lockup in slippery conditions. Interior amenities are plentiful. The CR-V seats five passengers comfortably, and rear passengers can enjoy their own rear vents and fold-down center armrest. 60/40 split folding rear seats help to accommodate a large amount of cargo. A Honda Satellite-linked Navigation System™ with voice recognition provides detailed maps and directions. The Rearview Camera lets the driver see what’s behind the vehicle, displaying an image on the LCD navigation screen. All audio systems are MP3 and WMA compatible, with optional XM® Satellite Radio and a 270-watt AM/FM 6-disc in-dash audio system in EX-L models. Refined, luxurious, and stylish, the 2008 Honda CR-V is an excellent performer, capable of handling a variety of activities. |
