2008 Honda Accord Overview
Undergoing a total redesign this year, the all-new 2008 Honda Accord is larger, sexier, and more powerful than ever. Available as a full-size sedan or rakish coupe, the Accord is much more upscale and luxurious than its predecessor. The Accord Sedan is available in six trim levels, while the sleek Accord Coupe comes in four trim levels. Two powerful engines are available, starting with two variations of the 2.4 liter 4-cylinder - one with 177 horsepower in LX models, the other with 190 horsepower in EX models. Either version can be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission for quick acceleration or a 5-speed automatic transmission with Grade Logic Control that optimizes shifts on climbs and descents. The most powerful engine ever offered in the Accord, the 3.5 liter V6 pumps out 268 horsepower with either a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission or the aforementioned 5-speed automatic, which features Variable Cylinder Management. VCM® shuts down one bank of engine cylinders while cruising to maximize fuel savings. The standard double wishbone front suspension provides predictable cornering feel and a smooth, stable ride. New interior amenities include an available satellite-linked navigation system with voice recognition and up to 8 gigabytes of memory for excellent maps and directions. The optional Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® allows hands-free calling with a compatible cell phone. Models equipped with the optional 6-disc CD changer feature a multi-function controller and MP3/WMA playback capability for hours of digital music playback. Safety features are more diverse, including dual stage, dual threshold front airbags, front side airbags with occupant position detection, and available side curtain airbags. All models feature standard 4-wheel disc anti-lock brakes to help prevent wheel lockup and retail steering control under hard braking. Standard Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control helps to maintain control if wheel slippage is detected, applying brake power or reducing power to restore the intended direction. Retaining the essential Honda essence of quality and attention to detail, the new 2008 Honda Accord is an evolutionary leap in terms of power, size, and sophistication. |
