2015 BMW X6 M Overview
- Redesigned for 2015
- 567-hp, turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 under the hood
- Seats up to five passengers
Returning for 2015 with new styling, powertrain updates, and interior upgrades, the X6 M is a high-performance answer to a question that few have asked: Can I take my SUV on the track?
Traditionally when thinking of BMW’s M performance division we think of track day weapons like the M3 and M5, but they turned their attention to two of BMW’s SUVs and popped out M editions of the X5 and X6. The X6 M is actually called a “sports activity coupe” by BMW, thanks to its fastback shape. A rear spoiler and rear diffuser help with the airflow at high speeds. Standard exterior features include 21-inch alloy wheels, power tailgate, LED fog lights, xenon adaptive headlights with auto-leveling, quad tailpipes, and power-folding, heated side mirrors.
Under the hood, the X6 M keeps the same engine, a turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 that has been tuned up to produce 567-hp and 553 pounds-feet of torque which beats last year’s 550-hp and 500 pounds-feet. All-wheel drive and a new eight-speed M Sport automatic transmission with paddle shifters are standard. The xDrive all-wheel drive system has been dialed in with a rear-wheel drive bias for better performance and can transfer power fully to the front or rear wheels depending on the situation. An adjustable air suspension helps keep the X6 M flat under cornering, no small feat for a vehicle of this size.
Inside, the five-seat X6 M features 18-way powered front seats, heated front seats, quad-zone automatic climate control, USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, iDrive, navigation with a 10.2-inch screen, and a Harmon Kardon surround sound audio system.
Standard safety equipment includes adaptive brakelights, a rearview camera, BMW Remote Services and Assist eCall, six airbags, electronic stability control, and antilock brakes.
