Dealer Van Sold Unsafe

Purchased a used van that was driven as a dealer car. One of their selling points was that this car was maintained and serviced by the dealership. After purchasing the car we realized within two days that the brakes needed servicing. All four brakes were very rusty, but one of the calipers was seized up and took quite a bit to grind away the rust. We understand that we purchased an inspection only vehicle and also understand that NY vehicles of this age will have rust. What we didn't expect was that when we were told that this vehicle was maintained by the dealer, that this meant the car had brakes that were not functioning. When we called to inform the dealer of the issue, we received tremendous support from the salesman and the gentleman who managed the garage. He agreed with me that they shouldn't have sold a car whose brakes weren't fully functioning and made a kind offer for us to bring in the repair costs to see how they could compensate for the oversight. We did as they requested, but nothing happened as I don't think the management at Honda shared his sentiment. Apparently, the desire to make things right isn't shared across the dealership and they chose to value the bottom line over customer safety and satisfaction. Thanks to the many people at Honda that were so great to us. The garage gave our car a safety inspection after we replaced all the brakes to make sure there are no other issues. However, I would not recommend this dealer to anyone as we do not trust the dealer to sell a safe vehicle or to follow through on their word.
