Poor Sales Experience

My wife and I enter the dealership around noon on a Friday. The receptionist who greeted us was polite. When we asked to speak with someone about purchasing a 2019 VW Alltrack the receptionist attempted to find a salesperson. Most of the salespeople ignored her! We were finally greeted by Zach (Office by the service desk with the VW Bug Mouse), who seemed polite initially. During the test drive he was conversational and helpful. Before talking number I expressed to him that though we were interest my wife and I were fully expecting it to be out of our range. When we got back to his office, the games began. My wife told him that we had our own financing lined up. He not only responded with a rude doubtful remark but also informed us that having our own financing excluded us from most discounts. This later proved to not be the case and when I asked other CO VW Dealerships, they informed me it was a deceitful way of making money on the back end. We allowed him to take a previous quote to his manager to discuss trade in value, that quote was not returned until we specifically asked for it later. While that could have been an honest mistake the poor sales tactics continued. When we were presented with a quote he would often try to jump around in the numbers and claim that the car was 2k less than the sheet clearly stated. We also stated that we had found a great offer online for a Denver VW Dealership and were unwilling to make any decisions before weighing all of our options. I showed him the promotion online to fully represent his competition. When I finally got to competitor, he had attempted to buy the car from them to prevent us from getting it from the Denver Dealership! To his credit he did state that he could buy it from them and we could in turn purchase it from him. That didn't really seem like a value add to me so I declined. When attempting to leave we were also told that any offer they gave us was only good in the moment and if we left it was void. Again I told them I was not making a rushed decision and would be happy to leave with any offer they would allow or no offer at all if they prefered. And as on last thing, as we were leaving the sales person began asking me multiple times what he did wrong and why I wasn't going to buy from him. It felt like an awkward high school break up. And to answer his question, see above. After this experience my wife and I agreed that even if he had the better deal, we would not have purchased from him.

I am from Layton, Utah. I saw the car I wanted on the internet and called Gebhardt Volkswagen. I was fortunate enough to be referred to Beverly Fish. She knew I was coming in from out of town, and took care to make sure I knew what I would need to purchase a car out of state. She was very low pressure, yet still very attentive. She took all the time I needed. In addition, she made me aware of dealer financing so I could get a loan through your dealership. This lead us to Tomasso, who was also very informative and helpful. This whole experience was so positive, I would absolutely recommend anybody I know to purchase a car with your dealership. It was definitely worth the drive.

Marcus Manchego did an excellent job on vehicle introduction with great details and enthusiasm. Best among the sales persons from other dealers we tested drive with today.
