Don't Overpay for Your New Toyota Highlander

2024 Toyota Highlander Overview

What Is the 2024 Toyota Highlander?
The Toyota Highlander is a three-row SUV with room for seven or eight, depending on seating configuration. Front- and all-wheel-drive versions are available, and powertrain choices consist of a 265-horsepower, turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and a gas-electric hybrid powertrain that pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine with two electric motors for a total of 243 hp. Highlander competitors include the Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot and Kia Telluride.

The Highlander offers 24 cubic feet of cargo space behind its second row and 8.6 cubic feet behind its third row, according to Cars.com’s cargo measurements.

What’s New on the 2024 Toyota Highlander?
A new Nightshade Edition is available for hybrid models in LE and XLE trims; it adds a blacked-out grille, wheels, mirror caps and other trim. A hands-free power liftgate is now standard on XLE and XSE trims, and the gas-engine Highlander’s base L trim has been discontinued. The Highlander’s V-6 engine was replaced by a turbocharged four-cylinder last year.

Should I Buy the 2024 Toyota Highlander?
Though it’s been somewhat overshadowed by the new-for-2024 Grand Highlander, the Highlander is still a good choice for families thanks to seating for up to eight, towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds with the gas engine, and a lengthy list of standard active-safety features. It’s also notably cheaper than its larger Grand Highlander sibling. The Highlander Hybrid’s estimated gas mileage is impressive, and it can also tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped. Highlander downsides include a third row that’s on the small side and less cargo room than some of its competitors.
