In Sept. 2024 I purchased a new Toyota Rav 4 from Salesperson Trevor Smith at the Kendall Toyota dealership on Good Pasture Rd. in Eugene. Mr. Smith told us that there was a chip shortage and we would only receive one key today but that the second key would be sent to the Kendall Toyota dealership in Bend, Oregon where we live. During the following year we did not receive that key and I started following up on the situation about six mo. after the purchase. I got no help from Trevor or Johnny Dunaway the new car sales manager. The dealership in Bend tried to help me but all of our efforts failed. I was always polite and ineffective. One day I saw that Costco had a partnership with a business who made this type of key in their portable buildin in the parking lot. I stood in line and purchased a key for $300. While in line I heard stories from people who had been treated in a similar way by other car dealerships. Some said that if you loose the one key that you have the dealership will say that they need to rekey all four locks and that may cost you $2,000. After I had the key I decided that I was not willing to dismiss the situation. I wrote a letter to Toyota of North America located in Plano, Texas as well as the same letter to the dealership in Eugene. I heard from Toyota of N. America. Shortly after that I received a phone call from Gary Newport the general manager of the Eugene dealership. He said that when he received a copy of the Costco receipt he would send me a check for #300. I sent it and he sent the check. No appology.

Dealer Response
Hi Blanche, thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re sorry to hear about the frustration you encountered during and after your purchase. Our general manager, Gary Newport, has spoken with you directly to address your concerns, and we appreciate you giving us the opportunity to discuss the situation personally. We also want to clarify that, unlike some of the stories you may have heard, we don'tr charge thousands of dollars to replace or program a key. At Kendall Toyota, we only charge the cost of the key and one hour of labor for programming — a much lower and fair amount. We value your feedback as it helps us improve, and we’re glad to hear that you’re enjoying your RAV4.

Everyone we dealt with - Bill, Colin, Trevor, and Avery
Everyone we dealt with - Bill, Colin, Trevor, and Avery - was polite, friendly, and knowledgable. The car is great, and the color - Ocean Gem - can't be beat. There were some thing we didn't understand about operating the car, and when we returned to Kendall, Bill Gasswint gladly answered all our questions. The computer system is much more complicated than our previous car (2005 Prius), so the help is much appreciated. Thanks everyone very much
