2017 Subaru Crosstrek Overview (See Available Styles)

  • All-wheel comes standard
  • Newly available Special Edition package
  • EyeSight safety system is available
The 2017 Subaru Crosstrek is a compact SUV that seats 5 passengers. It competes with the Nissan Rogue, Honda HR-V, and Mazda CX-3. This year, the 2.0i Premium trim receives a new Special Edition package that offers exclusive Pure Red or Crystal Black exterior paint as well as unique interior treatments and additional safety technology.

Three trims are available: the 2.0i, 2.0i Premium, and 2.0i Limited.

The Crosstrek is based off the Subaru Impreza, sharing a wheelbase and many parts with the compact hatchback. The two have essentially the same width and length, but the Crosstrek adds height and increases ground clearance to 8.7-inches, which offers increased capabilities when off-road. 17-inch alloy wheels come standard, as do roof rails and a fog lights. Running along the lower part of the car is unique black underbody cladding which helps to further differentiate the Crosstrek from the Impreza.

Under the hood there is one engine choice, a 148-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder that is mated to a five-speed manual transmission or an optional CVT. A symmetrical all-wheel drive system comes standard (par for the course for Subaru). Fuel economy ratings are better with the CVT, at 25/33 mpg city/highway while the 5MT returns an estimated 23/30 mpg.

Inside, the Crosstrek includes solid technology offerings, such as the STARLINK multimedia system with a standard 6.2-inch touchscreen. It also incorporates HD radio, internet radio streaming via a smartphone, Bluetooth connectivity, and a USB port. Higher trim levels receive a larger 7-inch screen with a navigation system that accepts voice commands optional. Cloth upholstery, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, and air conditioning are also standard. The Special Edition package adds red dash accents with black inlay, red ambient lighting, and contrast red stitching for the shift knob, steering wheel, and door panels.

Available safety features get a boost as well with Subaru’s EyeSight system offered on Premium and Limited trims. EyeSight utilizes forward facing cameras/sensors to power adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane departure warnings. The system can also use the fog lights to provide extra illumination in the direction of a turn. Seven airbags, antilock brakes, a rearview camera, and an electronic stability system all come standard. Other available safety features include a blind spot warning system and emergency communication services with automatic collision notification, stolen vehicle recovery, and remote locking/unlocking.
