Let me start by saying Saint J Subaru prices are very good. I price shopped a number of dealerships in the region to determine what dealership I wanted to visit. Perhaps that was were I went wrong. The entire experience was a nightmare I wish never to repeat.
Firstly to spend over four and a half hours at a dealership on a weekday when we were the only customers in the sales department is grossly excessive. The amount of time my husband and I were waiting to be seen by one person or another was frustrating to say the least. I know sales can be time consuming but the time waiting for them to get us into finance and have our car cleaned made up the majority of our visit. In the middle of a pandemic the last thing I feel like doing is spending excessive amounts of time in a strange place.
Next the negotiation was probably one of the most degrading experiences of my life. I should have walked out when I was asked at the start if "all the decision makers were present". I am working professional and a mother, I have never in all my adult years been talked down to like such a child. The rest of conversation primarily consisted of the sales person talking to me as though I didn't know what I was talking about continuously itemizing everything that was "wrong" with my trade and trying to nickel and dime me over a trade allowance glaring at me the entire time. There was nothing customer oriented about any of it (she never so much as gave me a card while the sales manager was apparently too important to even come out and introduce himself).
The final gut punch came when I was finally brought into finance about three hours after my arrival at which point I was completely exhausted. After I had signed multiple pieces of paper stating I was agreeing to the sale price I was informed my interest rate would be the highest I have ever seen quoted for someone looking for the type of loan I was. I felt completely defeated and ready to get the heck out of there and agreed to something I never should have just to finance through one of their preferred banks. At this point I felt like I had been given such a bait and switch tactic because they flat out refused to give me even a range of interest until they knew we would be exhausted and agree to almost anything to get home. I know this isn't common practice as I have been given more upfront information at other dealerships.
At the end of the day we left the dealership with I what I believe was a fair deal. I know there are dealerships out there that actually feel customer service oriented and I can tell you start to finish it was clear this was not one of them. If you value your dignity I would suggest avoiding this place.
Borderline Criminal

Now let me just start by saying the staff are extremely nice and the place itself is clean. But oh boy that service center is borderline criminal! I went in to get a recall fixed on my Subaru, and when I arrived at my scheduled appointment they told me they hadn't ordered the parts and I would need to reschedule. I live 30 minutes away btw. So as I go to pull out my break lines snap and I am forced to keep the car there for repairs. When I finally got my car back 4 days later I couldn't even believe how terrible they did. First off, they charged me $700 for the fix, which my local mechanic has done for me for around $400 in the past. Ok, so I got a bit overcharged, but at least they did a good job right? Wrong! Not only did they not use factory lines AT A SUBARU DEALERSHIP, but it looks like they made the part themselves in house. Additionally, it looks like it was done with copper as well, which is illegal as far as I know, but I haven't verified this yet. PLEASE I BEG YOU, if you ever need work done on your vehicle, find another mechanic! Completely unacceptable...
Best car buying experience ever

Initially we were very concerned about having no choice but Saint J. Reasons were that we definitely wanted the newly released, limited availability Outback 3.6R Touring in black, and Saint J was the only dealer around within 100 miles that had one on allocation. We also sold our old car privately and needed to replace it, so we were concerned about having to deal with the only game in town on buying a new car - a process we had come to dread from experience. Happily this turned into the best car buying experience in our many decades of working with dealers. Negotiations were very open, fair and friendly, the sales staff was extremely helpful and responsive to our many questions and requests, and they made the final transaction and decisions on service and warranty options quick, easy, clear and painless. The Outback was beautifully prepped, the sales person was highly knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the new high tech features before we drove off, and the car itself turned out to exceed our expectations on safety, comfort and handling. Though they are not the closest Subaru dealer, we're hoping we can arrange our schedules to work with them on service and maintenance requirements because of this initial experience.
