I wanted to share my experience purchasing my first
I wanted to share my experience purchasing my first Subaru at Competition Subaru this summer. From the second you walk in, you can tell this dealership strives to create a positive experience for their customers. Jesse Moss from the sales team was incredible. Very approachable, knowlegable & professional. There were no high pressure sale tactics at all from him. He provides you all the information you are looking for so you can make an informed decision. I absolutely love my new Forester Hybrid. Besides thanking Jesse, I also wanted to give a massive thank you to Regina from the "Love Encore" program. After I drove the car for about a month, she reached out to schedule time with me to go through in person literally all the features of the car. I learned so much from her. She is amazing!

Competition Subaru of Smithtown is a good example why car
Competition Subaru of Smithtown is a good example why car dealerships have terrible reputations as dishonest and unethical. We have had Subarus for decades and purchased our last Forester 10 years ago at Competition. When we elected to upgrade to a new Forester in September 2025, our salesperson gave us the monthly payments and rates for the various loan term lengths. We told him we wanted the 4.49% option for 48 months; this was better than we could get from our bank, so we proceeded with Subaru financing. On the day we picked up the car, we were sent to their Finance Manager who, after taking some basic information, started showing us extended warranty options based on a 72-month loan at 4.9% interest. He kept saying that our monthly payments would be lower and we could pay it off in a year if we wanted. When we asked about the 48-month loan, he ignored us and kept pushing papers in front of us to sign. He only wanted to encourage us to sign up for the extended warranty options showing a lengthy list of items covered and saying that the electronic issues alone made it worthwhile. We should have just stood up and left, but we were confused about what was going on and signed the papers. Now it’s too late, the signed papers are legal documents, and we ended up paying about $2,000 more than our original agreement. We feel railroaded and taken advantage of; we should have been more insistent on the original plan. We have since learned that car dealerships make significant money from selling extended warranties and that individual salespeople earn commissions for selling these products, incentivizing them to push the warranties on customers. We emailed both the salesman and the Finance Manager to ask them to tell us what the difference in the total amount of the loan would be between the two options -what we wanted and what we got. To date there has been no reply. It was an expensive lesson for us. And to make the experience even worse, the Finance Manager was wearing way too much of a foul-smelling cologne. The entire office smelled like some toxic industrial cleaning agent. Subarus are great cars, and we have always enjoyed them. But, be aware of this sales strategy and stay away from Competition Subaru of Smithtown. You can’t trust them.
