Comparison Review

Comfort
Passengers in the back seat may find themselves a little more cramped in the BMW X1 than the Mazda CX-9. The BMW X1 will be popular with taller drivers and passengers in the front seat, due to its greater front head- and legroom than the Mazda CX-9.

Convenience
You'll be making about the same number of stops at the gas station with the BMW X1 as you will with the Mazda CX-9, as they are both able to travel similar distances on a tank of gas.

Cost
There are a lot of factors to consider when calculating the overall cost of a vehicle. The main consideration is Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). When looking only at MSRP, the BMW X1 will have less of an impact on your bank account than the Mazda CX-9. Another consideration is the Destination Charge, which is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle to the dealer from where it's built. The BMW X1 carries a much lower Destination Charge than the Mazda CX-9.

Dimensions
Since the BMW X1 is much slimmer than the Mazda CX-9, it'll be much easier to find a wide enough space in a crowded parking lot. If you go with the BMW X1, you'll have a much easier time finding a large enough space to park than you will with the Mazda CX-9.

Drivetrain
With its lower torque engine, the BMW X1 doesn't do as good a job transmitting power to its wheels as the Mazda CX-9.

Handling
The BMW X1 has a smaller turning radius than the Mazda CX-9, allowing you to more easily maneuver in and out of tight spots.

Performance
In terms of horsepower, it's a virtual tie between the BMW X1 and the Mazda CX-9.

Utility
The BMW X1 has less seating than the Mazda CX-9, making the Mazda CX-9 the better choice, if you need to chauffeur many passengers. The BMW X1 has significantly less cargo capacity than the Mazda CX-9.

Warranty
You'll have greater peace of mind with the more generous basic warranty of the BMW X1 than that of the Mazda CX-9.
