Don't Overpay for Your New Nissan Frontier

2024 Nissan Frontier Overview

Eighties retro is so in now that Nissan used the word “rad” in announcing its Hardbody Edition. A design package on the 2024 Frontier, the Hardbody Edition, honors the first small truck the brand sold in the U.S. after changing its name from Datsun in the early 1980s. Also for 2024, there’s a new SL trim level.

Paying Homage
Like the original Hardbody, the 2024 Frontier Hardbody Edition has a black grille, sport bar (what a lawyer-free society would nonbindingly call a “roll bar”) and bumpers. It also wears black decals and retro-inspired wheels styled after the 1980s’ truck’s. The Hardbody Edition is available on four-wheel-drive crew-cab Frontiers in SV trim for $3,890.

The new-for-2024 SL trim level sits atop the Frontier lineup and is only available with the crew cab. It includes a moonroof, leather-appointed seats, heated front seats and a 10-speaker Fender audio system.

Standard Emergency Calling
All 2024 Frontiers include three years of complimentary NissanConnect Services, an increase from the previous six months. Through Nissan’s smartphone app, NissanConnect allows owners to remotely lock and unlock their doors and start or stop the engine; it also includes emergency calling.

While many safety features are available on all trim levels — adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert and parking sensors — forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection is the only one included across the lineup.

Specs and MPH
All 2024 Frontiers are powered by a 3.8-liter V-6 engine making 310 horsepower and 281 pounds-feet of torque paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard; 4WD costs an additional $3,200 with the extended cab (Nissan calls it a King Cab) and $3,000 on crew-cab trucks.

Though official 2024 numbers from the EPA aren’t yet available, RWD 2023 Frontiers are rated at 18/24/20-21 mpg city/highway/combined, depending on wheel options; 4WD versions get 17-18/22-23/19-20 mpg. Extended-cab trucks come with a 6-foot bed, and crew cabs are available with either a 5- or 6-foot bed, depending on trim level.
