My father and I visited Superior Nissan the day before

Reviewed by Justine MDecember 14, 2024

My father and I visited Superior Nissan the day before Thanksgiving. We were looking My fafor vehicles under $30,000, and after determining that we were not going to find anything acceptable at Toyota (where a salesperson approached us but quickly dismissed us when Dad told him our budget and expectations) or Honda (where NO ONE greeted us), we stopped in at Superior on our way back to my house. Dad and I started checking out the numerous cars in the lot, and a salseperson who introduced himself as Kevin approached us. He seemed helpful and motivated to sell us a car, and when I found a brand-new 2025 Rogue with a sticker price under $28,000, Dad and I went to Kevin's desk on the sales floor. We spent three hours at the dealership, most of it sitting at a desk with Kevin, while my father and Kevin haggled over pricing. Dad is a person who prefers to pay cash up front for everything he can. He was ready to write a check for the full amount of the vehicle THAT DAY, but Kevin kept trying to sell him on the idea that Dad would save $3,000 if he financed the car for at least six months. My father is savvy and did not accept Kevin's proposal because it made no sense. How is it possivle to save money when a perosn finances a car as opposed to buyijng it outright. Kevin spent at least thrity miniutes working the financing angle, but when it became apparent Dad was ready to walk out without buying anything, Kevin excused himself, spoke to Superior's general salses manager, and came back with the wonderful news that Dad could have the $3,000 discount without going through the hassel of financing. By the time Dad and I left Superior that Wednesday (November 27, 2024), everyone was happy. Dad and I were set to return in two days (Friday, November 29, 2024) with the title to my 2018 RAV4, which we recieved a $4,000 credit as a trade-in, proof of insurance coverage, and a check for around $23,000 for a 2025 Nissan Rogue S model. When Friday came, I called Kevin to explain that I was running late becuase although I had the title to my RAV4 and a proof of insurance card which I always kept in the vehicle, I was still looking for my entire policy, which Kevin said I needed to have to prove I had full coverage. Kevin said not to worry about arriving early becasue he had another customer at the time. It was about 1 PM when my father an I showed up at Superior Nissan armed with what we had been told we needed. We did have to wait for 10 minutes or so while Kevin closed his deal with the other customer, but we moved to Kevin's desk to supply documents and money. When I gave Kevin my insurance policy and proof of insurance card, which he had told me over the phone I NEEDED to bring, he laughed because he suddenly remembered that we only needed the insurance if we were financing, which we were not. This was a red flag to me, but as it was only a minor inconvenience, it was not anything worth complaining about at the time. My father and I sat at Kevin's desk until after 5 PM that day. Although we had walked into the dealership with everything we needed and more and the Rouge was sitting ready to go in the front of the dealership, we spent four hours at Kevin's desk. At one point, Kevin attempted to have me sign documents I had already signed two days before. I am unsure of other reasons why it took so long to make the trade. I only know that when we finally got into the Rogue and drove away, we were both exhausted and my dad, whose knees are in terrible shape, was in severe pain from sitting so long. I inititally gave a two-star rating, detailing my experience as evidence of my dissatisfaction with the customer service at the dealership. I received a call from someone at Superior who is in charge of checking ratings. He offered me a $500 voucher toward the sales tax on the car in return for changing my rating. I was shocked at the obvious bribe and said so. I am restircted to 759 words, so tune in to my next review.
