2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Overview

  • Seats up to 12 passengers across 4 rows
  • 4-wheel drive available
  • Crosswind assist comes standard
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 is a commercial van with a maximum payload/towing capacity of 3,237/5,000 pounds. It has multiple configurations: 2 wheelbases and 3 roof heights. Four trims are available: the base Worker, Cargo Van, Crew Van, or Passenger Van.
While Mercedes has a reputation as a maker of fine luxury vehicles, the Sprinter has the appearance of a rugged, work-capable vehicle. Overall, it has rather minimal, boxy styling, but its front-end shares similarities with the sporty crossovers in the Mercedes lineup. Standard features include 50/50-split 270-degree swing-out rear doors, sliding passenger-side door, and 16-inch steel wheels. Fully automatic headlights, fog lights, rain-sensing wipers, power/heated side mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a trailer hitch receiver are available.

The Sprinter is powered by a standard 161-hp, turbo-diesel 2.1-liter 4-cylinder engine with 265 pounds-feet of torque mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission and rear wheel drive. A 188-hp, turbo-diesel 3.0-liter 6-cylinder with 325 pounds-feet of torque mated to a 5-speed automatic and standard rear- or optional 4-wheel drive (4WD) is available as well.

Inside, the Sprinter can seat up to 12 passengers across 4 rows. The standard multimedia system features a 5.8-inch display screen, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, SD card slot, and a USB port. Other standard features include air conditioning and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel. An integrated navigation system and heated front seats are optional.

Standard safety features include front air bags, antilock brakes, an electronic stability system, a tire-pressure monitoring system, and cross-wind assist. Side-impact and side curtain airbags, a backup camera, pre-collision warning, blind-spot warning, and lane departure warning are available as well.
