The 2023 Mazda CX-5 is a compact premium SUV that seats five passengers. Maximum cargo capacity is 59.6 cubic feet with the rear seat folded down.
Eight trims are available: Base, Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, Premium, Premium Plus, Turbo, and Turbo Signature. As its name implies, the new Carbon Edition trim level comes with a unique exterior treatment that includes a black grille, black side mirrors, and a metallic gray paint job.
Powering the CX-5 is a standard 187-hp, 2.5-liter SKYACTIV four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automatic or manual transmission. Front-wheel drive comes standard, while all-wheel drive is available. Fuel economy for the FWD CX-5 is an EPA-estimated rating of 25/31 mpg city/highway. It slightly decreases to a 24/30 mpg rating for the AWD CX-5.
The Turbo trims also have a more powerful option: a 227-hp, turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine joined with the six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. Turbocharged models have slightly lower fuel economy ratings – 22/27 mpg.
