The 2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport is the entry-level, luxury compact SUV that seats up to 7 passengers. It competes with the Acura RDX, BMW X3, and Audi Q5.

Three trims are available: the SE, HSE, and HSE Luxury.

The Discovery Sport SUV has an overall athletic appearance with sleek body lines and forms. It features a rugged-looking underbody, blacked-out B and D pillars, geometric-shaped headlights, and Land Rover’s signature pattern grille. Standard features include daytime running lamps, power/heated side mirrors, and a dual-pipe exhaust system. The optional Black Design Package offers cosmetic enhancements, which include black badging and gloss black side mirrors, side vents, and wheels. Xenon headlights, a panoramic moonroof, front and rear fog lights, power liftgate, and turn-signal indicators are available as well.

Powering the Discovery Sport is a 240-hp, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Fuel efficiency for the Discovery Sport is an EPA-estimated 20/26 mpg city/highway.

Inside, the Discovery Sport has an upscale interior with leather-trim seating. The standard multimedia system features an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, and 10 audio speakers. Using the standard InControl Remote Control smartphone app, the driver can lock/unlock doors, preheat/precool the interior, start the engine, and locate their vehicle in a parking lot. Optional features include a full leather upholstery, a memory seat, automatic dimming rearview mirror, heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel, heads-up display, satellite radio, navigation, and an 11-speaker audio system. An available two-seat third row can be added for a total of seven passengers.

The standard InControl Protect emergency communication system features roadside and emergency assistance. Other standard features include a backup camera, rain-sensing wipers, roll stability control, and hill descent control. Forward collision warning, lane departure warning, autonomous braking and automated parking system are also available.
