BOTTOM LINE: DON’T COME HERE!
BOTTOM LINE: DON’T COME HERE! My range rover had a gear box fault and had to be towed in to be repaired. I told the service department to analyze the issue and get the car back into a drivable state. The first set of repairs they diagnosed was a battery replacement and a gear shifter replacement. They charged me a total of $933 for the battery and the labor to replace it. At AutoZone, the battery costs $258 and replacing it simply involves removing the spare tire. Needless to say, Land Rover Bethesda grossly overcharges. After this first set of repairs, I was informed that the car was still broken and that the next step was to replace the valve body for $6,291. Since I was told the car was still broken, my only option was to approve the next repair. After two months at the dealer, I pick up my car and am going through the $9,400 bill when I notice that in the notes section the mechanic noted that the car was test driven and it drove approximately 15 miles with no issues aside from the check engine light staying on after the first set of repairs. Land Rover Bethesda purposely did not inform me that the car was driving after the first set of repairs. They did this because they knew this information would have caused me to not approve the next $6291 repair, and their sole focus is to try and squeeze the most amount of money possible out of the customer. I confronted the service manager on this situation, and he responded by saying “the car probably wouldn’t have made it far without replacing the valve body for $6291.” This may have been true, or it may not have been, it’s a total guess on the dealers part, but it is my right as the customer to be given all the facts about the current situation to make a clear and informed decision on approving repairs that cost thousands of dollars. Withholding information to coerce the customer to spend more money is extremely fraudulent behavior and is exactly the experience I had at Land Rover Bethesda. Sadly, my experience is not a one-off event that happened just to me. My father has bought three range rovers from this dealership. He loves the car, and wanted to buy another one, but recently bought a Mercedes because of how horrible his experiences have been at this dealership. Having read about my story, I hope you take my advice, learn from my experiences, and go to a different Land Rover dealer. I literally couldn’t be any worse.
