Don't Overpay for Your New Jeep Grand Wagoneer

2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Overview

Jeep dusted off the Wagoneer nameplate after nearly two decades of dormancy for the 2022 model year and affixed it to an all-new full-size SUV riding on a frame derived from the Ram 1500 pickup truck. For 2023, Jeep debuted the long-wheelbase Wagoneer L, giving it a lineup to parallel the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban and Ford Expedition/Expedition Max twins. Jeep’s Grand Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer L are more luxurious variations that go head-to-head with the Cadillac Escalade/Escalade ESV, Lincoln Navigator/Navigator L and GMC Yukon/Yukon XL. And now for 2024, there’s big news under the hood of the Jeep Wagoneer family — or rather, there’s significant but smaller news.

What’s New?
As Jeep’s parent automaker Stellantis ends production of its Hemi V-8 engines, the 5.7-liter drops from the Wagoneer lineup and the Grand Wagoneer loses its 6.4-liter for the 2024 model year. The standard engine in all Wagoneers, including Ls and Grand Wagoneers, is the Hurricane twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. In the regular Wagoneer and Wagoneer L, it makes 420 horsepower and 468 pounds-feet of torque; the Grand Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer L get a version that is turned up to 510 hp and 500 pounds feet.


The twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder not only bests the outputs of both of the previously available V-8 engines, it also beats the V-8s in fuel economy. With the six-cylinder engine, the Wagoneer and L are rated by the EPA at 17/24/20 mpg city/highway/combined with rear-wheel drive; those figures drop 1 mpg in each category to 16/23/19 with four-wheel drive. The Grand Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer L, which are only available with four-wheel drive, are EPA-rated at 14/20/17 mpg.

Standard and Available Safety Features
Being all-new so recently, the Jeep Wagoneer line offers many of the latest safety technologies. Standard driver-assist and safety systems include forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert and — of particular importance on SUVs this size — front and rear parking sensors. A head-up display, driver attention warning, adaptive cruise control, lane departure steering assist, a 360-degree camera system, automated parking, and automatic high beams and windshield wipers are all available either on higher trim levels or bundled into option packages.

Pricing and Availability
The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are on sale now. Full line pricing (including $2,000 destination) is as follows:

Versus the Competition
Long-wheelbase, body-on-frame full-size SUVs are a uniquely American segment — and their manufacturers seem to have settled on $3,000 as the appropriate pricing difference between the two versions. Chevrolet hasn’t released 2024 pricing for its entries yet, but the 2023 Tahoe starts at $56,095 and the Suburban at $59,095 (all prices include destination charges). Ford offers a bare-bones STX trim on the Expedition aimed at fleet buyers, but the base trim aimed at most shoppers is the XLT, which starts at $61,485 for the short(er)-wheelbase or $64,590 for the Expedition Max. On the luxury end, the Cadillac Escalade starts at $83,890 and $86,890 for the longer ESV, while Lincoln asks at least $84,660 for a Navigator and $100,245 for the Navigator L.
