1 star is as low as it will let me go but if I could, it would be zero stars. I purchased a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle that now smells like an ashtray. I cannot drive the vehicle without getting a severe headache because of this. When I looked at the vehicle, it had a very strong fragrance to it. Probably to cover the smell up as I did not smell any cigarette smoke. Now, I do not have a very good sense of smell due to the job I have so when I brought this vehicle home after purchase on a Friday, I had to take my 3 kids somewhere for their first ride in it. They almost immediately started complaining of the smell and now I cannot allow them to even ride in the car unless weather allows the windows to be down. I called and set up a time the following week to have them do something about the car. When the day arrived I had made up my mind that I would be returning the vehicle due to them selling a vehicle that was certified pre-owned but did not meet those requirements. There's a spot on their checklist that specifically says vehicle will have no strong odors or fragrance smell to cover up. So for whatever reason, I was directed to the finance and service managers to get this resolved. I ended up reluctantly agreeing to dropping off the vehicle for the service manager to use his $15,000 machine he mentioned this amount several times to get the smell out. I did this because they said it was my only option. I was pissed, felt taken advantage of and in the end have a car that still smells like an ashtray. The smoke smell did get reduced for a day but the fragrance smell was still overwhelming. I ended up finding fragrance wafers under the seats too. The cigarette smell is back as strong as ever now and I don't know what my options are. No one apologized for any of this at Massey and no one even followed up to see if the smell was gone. If I had the money I would be taking them to court to try and get back at least the difference in cost between a certified pre-owned and a regular used vehicle. That is a significant amount of money from what I can see. I told the service manager that this is what I would be doing and he assured me that his $15,000 machine would get the smell out. In conclusion; do not under any circumstances buy a certified pre-owned vehicle from them because the checklist that they use is obviously not followed. I have not yet contacted the consumer protection division at the Maryland attorney general's office but do intend on doing this soon.
