I Took my Buick Encore GX in for an oil change at Beach

Reviewed by MJOctober 11, 2025

I Took my Buick Encore GX in for an oil change at Beach Buick in Myrtle Beach. Neil came out and said my car was over 15,000 miles and was due for a fuel induction service so my car would get better mileage plus told me my battery was low and I needed to drive my car more. I drive my car every other day so my battery should not be low. That should have set off an alarm in my head something was wrong and that the battery was the real problem that Beach ignored. Being an older woman I never thought that Beach Buick would charge me for services that were not needed or required by GM, but they did. I found out from another GM dealer my car did not need a full fuel induction service that costed me $214.99. At the time my car was at 22,000. According to GM they do not require this service only if you are having poor performance with your vehicle. My car has always been good on gas. According to my sons all they needed to do was add a fuel additive in the gas tank the other GM dealer said the same thing and I could of done that myself according to my sons when I filled up my gas tank for $3. According to the other GM dealer my car was not in need of a full fuel induction but needed a battery. The cables were all corroded one battery cell was totally dead and 3 cells were low. The problem was there on July 29th 2025 when I had my oil changed, but Neil only acknowledged verbally my battery was low. I understand from the other GM dealer they get points or a bonus for selling the fuel induction service that uses GM products even when the service is not needed Based on an email from David Keyes these services are not required they are recommended as preventative maintenance. I wrote to Beach Buick requesting my money back since they did not tell me the services are not required but recommended as preventative maintenance. I would have told them No I did not want the service if they said this to me at the time Neil said my car was due for the fuel induction. I even reported them to the consumer protection agency and they said I should have check their rating with the Better Business Bureau before I had them do any service on my car not after the fact. They have an F rating with the BBB. Buyer beware. Every mechanic I spoke with said they only do a full fuel induction if there is a problem and my car did not have a problem at 22,000 only an additive needed to be added to the gas tank. One other thing, I asked for my multi point inspection sheet and Phil sends me one from 2024 based on the service no and my receipt. It was obvious he did not want me to see what the service dept filled out. They created a multipoint inspection sheet that is unreadable and does not match what they said verbally. That is the practice of dishonesty. They have a high turnover of employees in both the service dept and sales. That says something right there. I'm use to doing business with Dealerships that retain their employees 10 to 15 years.

2 weeks ago New I recently made an appointment with Beach GMC in Myrtle Beach, to have my 2021 Sierra pickup truck serviced. When I arrived at the service department, I told them there was a small quarter size corroded area on one of the chrome rims around the valve stem. I left the truck with them to be repaired and went home. I was never notified on how they planned on repairing the chrome rim, as it was under extended warranty. (The dealership continues to blame the extended warranty people which is wrong it falls back on the dealership. I checked with other dealership and they agree it’s the dealerships responsibility). A few days later I was notified to pick up my truck. I was extremely upset and shocked to find out ALL FOUR CHROME RIMS were painted, and the corrosion was never repaired it was painted over. They never notified/called on how they planned on repairing the rim. I would NEVER have approved this! I don’t understand how they could just take it upon themselves to paint over the corrosion and paint all four rims without my acknowledgment. (There wasn’t anything wrong with the other 3 rims) I contacted and spoke with the service manager, as well as the general manager to my disbelief they said this is practice and nothing could be done with chrome. I asked many times why wasn’t I called because I never would allow them to paint my chrome rims. They told me to bring my truck back in and that they would remove the paint. A few hours later, I received a phone call from the service manager to pick up my truck. I was told they could not remove the paint without damaging all the rims. I’m still in shock that they damaged all my rims and won’t replace them with new chrome rims and my vehicle has depreciated due to their negligence. At this point my only option is to notify and report this to the DMV, BBB, FTC and the attorney general.
