I had a terrible experience with Freedom Chevrolet’s

Reviewed by Caitlin Hannaman from Fremont MIMarch 20, 2025

I had a terrible experience with Freedom Chevrolet’s finance department, and I want to warn others about their lack of accountability and poor communication when financing a vehicle. However, I want to emphasize that my salesperson was absolutely amazing—professional, knowledgeable, and great to work with. Unfortunately, the finance team completely dropped the ball. I purchased a vehicle on February 10, 2025, completed all paperwork with the Finance Manager, and was told my loan was being processed through GM Financial. On March 12—just 3 days before my due date—I realized that I still had no loan account, no payment information, and I couldn't create an online GM Financial account. After calling GM Financial, I was shocked to learn that they had no record of me at all—no loan, no account, nothing. They recommended contacting the dealership. When I contacted the dealership, the part-time finance worker had no explanation and said they would leave a message for the Finance Manager. I was told the Finance Manager would call me the next day, but by noon on March 13, I still hadn’t heard anything. Instead, I suddenly received an email alert from Credit Karma that a new hard inquiry had been added to my credit report—31 days after the initial one—without any prior notice or authorization from me. The dealership still hadn't contacted me, yet my credit was already being impacted. Later that afternoon, at 4:34 PM, the Finance Manager finally called and left a voicemail, admitting that: ✅ The dealership forgot to submit my loan paperwork, causing the delay. ✅ GM Financial had now received and funded the loan. ✅ I would get my account information in the mail in about a week or TWO. ✅ I had a new first payment due date for NEXT month and would not be considered late. Yet, when I was finally able to access my GM Financial account, the situation was completely different from what I was told: ❌ My payment was marked as past due, even though I had just been told I had a new due date. ❌ The dealership never informed me that my payment would be due immediately, despite their mistake causing the delay. First thing Monday morning, March 17, I called the dealership twice. The first time, I was told the Finance Manager was not in yet. The second time, I was forwarded directly to his phone and left a voicemail. I never received a call back. On March 18, I sent an email asking if he had received my voicemail and whether he had figured anything out. Instead of a phone call, I received an email from the same Finance Manager, completely contradicting what he had said in his voicemail: ⚠️ Instead of acknowledging the dealership’s mistake, the email blamed a “technical/computer issue.” ⚠️ Instead of confirming my new due date, the email stated that my payment was already due immediately. ⚠️ Instead of explaining why GM Financial ran my credit again, the email brushed it off as something that "just happens after 30 days". Had I followed what the Finance Manager told me in his voicemail and waited a week or two for my account details, I would have unknowingly been even later on my payment. The only reason I avoided late fees and potential credit damage (other than the unnecessary hard inquiry) was because I kept checking and took action myself. Even worse, when I replied to his email—CC’ing the General Manager—I received no response at all. This dealership’s incompetence and lack of communication put my credit and finances at risk. If I hadn't been proactive, I would have unknowingly been late on my payment to the point of a late fee and even more impact on my credit. Their response has been dismissive, contradictory, and unprofessional. That being said, my salesperson was fantastic and went above and beyond to provide excellent service. It’s a shame that the finance department overshadowed what should have been a great experience.

We really didn’t think I would get approved for this brand new truck because I’m young, but they pulled through and got me a loan and a great deal! Highly highly recommend this place. Will be coming back in the future
