Their service dept.
Their service dept. tried to charge me twice the going rate for engine replacement. They gave me an estimate for $21,000. And all their competitors were $10,000. to $11,000.

Mr. Watlington, I finally was able to research your complaint and thought I should respond to you. I would be more than welcome to discuss over the phone if that works for you but here is our side of the story. Your vehicle was brought to us for check engine light, traction control light, oil leak, black smoke coming from exhaust and coolant bottle being empty. Your vehicle was not driveable which caused us to have to push your vehicle into a stall for diagnosis. Upon doing so and placing on a lift, our certified technician found a hole in the side of your engine block. We could not have known that simply by looking at the truck in the parking lot. We determined that your vehicle needed an engine. We quoted you $20,657 for a remanufactured engine which included a significant core charge of $5000 that GM charges us for your core since yours had a hole in the block and couldn't use yours. So $5000 of our quote was for the core. We even suggested that you purchase a used core from a junkyard for $500 which could be returned to GM saving you $4500. Our quote of $15657 was for a remanufactured engine from GM, not a used one with no telling what miles that you ended up purchasing from Ray's Automotive. In addition, our reman engine would come with a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty which your used engine would not have. So in closing, I do believe that our 1 hour diagnosis is a fair charge for our services. I do agree that we should reimburse the shop fee which I will be glad to do.
