Don't Overpay for Your New Genesis G80

2024 Genesis G80 Overview

It’s been a busy few years for the Genesis G80. The sedan that introduced the world to the concept of a South Korean luxury car entered its second generation for the 2021 model year. For 2024, the gas-powered G80 simplifies things a little, dropping rear-drive configurations from the lineup and committing fully to all-wheel drive.

Other than that, Wi-Fi is now standard across the line, as is Genesis’s advanced forward collision warning that incorporates bicycle recognition and turning-assist features. Highway Driving Assist 2 is also now standard and includes adaptive cruise control and advanced lane-keeping functions to monitor and aid the driver in all phases of highway driving. Additionally, the 3.5T gets a newly available Sport Advanced variant, and the Sport base package and power door closure are no longer available with the bigger engine.

Specs and MPG
While RWD is off the menu, the G80 still offers a choice of two engines. The standard offering is a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder making 300 horsepower and 311 pounds-feet of torque on premium fuel. The 3.5T packs a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 good for 375 hp and 391 pounds-feet, also with premium gas. Both are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2.5T gets an EPA-rated 22/30/25 mpg city/highway/combined, while the 3.5T is rated at 17/25/19 mpg.

Pricing and Trim Levels
The 2024 Genesis G80 is on sale now. Each engine is offered in three trim levels. Full line pricing (all prices include $1,195 destination) is as follows:

  • 2.5T Standard: $55,345
  • 2.5T Advanced: $60,045
  • 2.5T Sport Prestige: $64,895
  • 3.5T Sport: $65,195
  • 3.5T Sport Advanced: $68,145
  • 3.5T Sport Prestige: $74,045

Its power, efficiency and comprehensive safety tech make even the 2.5T a compelling luxury sedan. It also features 18-inch wheels, synthetic leather seating, heated seats front and rear, power-adjustable front seats, a heated power adjustable steering wheel, piano-black trim, an 8-inch screen in the instrument panel and a 14.5-inch infotainment screen with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and HD and satellite radio.

The 2.5T Advanced ups the wheel size to 19 inches and adds a panoramic moonroof, matte-finish wood trim, ventilated front seats, three-zone climate control and a 21-speaker Lexicon audio system. Unique 19-inch wheels, a more aggressive front end and blacked-out exterior trim distinguish the 2.5T Sport Prestige.

Opt for the larger engine and you also get more luxury goodies. The 3.5T Sport rolls on 19-inch wheels and boasts a panoramic moonroof, real leather seating — heated and ventilated in the front and heated in the rear — aluminum interior trim, the Lexicon audio system, a 360-degree camera system and an adaptive suspension with Road Preview, which uses a camera to scan the road ahead to proactively prepare the suspension for large bumps or potholes.

The 3.5T Sport Advanced adds front seats with adjustable thigh support and bolsters, and the driver’s seat also gets Ergo Motion, which uses adjustable air pockets inside the seat to help improve the driver’s posture. This trim level also includes blind spot cameras that feed to the display in the instrument panel, plus Digital Key, which allows owners to use their phone as a key to the car.

To that, the Sport Prestige trim adds 20-inch wheels, rear-wheel steering, Nappa leather, carbon-fiber trim, wireless phone charging, a 12.3-inch 3D digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, rear parking sensors, and the ability to enter and exit parking spaces autonomously either with or without the driver in the car.

Versus the Competition
Genesis offers all this comfort and safety tech for a little bit of a savings relative to its rivals from the German luxury brands. The similarly swoopy 2024 Audi A6 starts at $58,395. Mercedes-Benz hasn’t released 2024 pricing yet for the E-Class, but the 2023 model started at $57,900.
