2012 Ford Mustang Overview

The iconic Ford Mustang makes sports-car performance accessible with a standard V-6 engine and eleven models, ensuring that both novice enthusiasts and die-hard race fans can find themselves in a new Mustang for 2012.

The base model engine packs 305-horsepower into a 3.7-liter, V-6. Upgrade to more power with the 412-horsepower, 5.0-liter, V-8 engine on the GT models, the 444-horsepower, 5.0-liter, V8 engine on the Boss 302, or max out with the 550-horsepower, supercharged 5.4-liter, V-8 engine on the Shelby GT500. The rear-wheel drive Mustang features a standard six-speed manual transmission and six-speed automatic transmission is available on all models.

The V-6 Mustang gets impressive fuel economy for such a powerful vehicle: 19 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. V-8 GT models come in at 18/26 mpg city/highway.

Standard interior features include air conditioning, a tilt-steering wheel with speed controls, and stereo with CD player and auxiliary audio input jack. Coupe models include 50/50 split-fold rear seats, while convertibles have a fixed rear seat. Upgrades include reclining front bucket seats with six-way power adjustable driver’s seat, leather trimmed upholstery, premier trimmed leather with color accents, and RECARO sport seats with leather-trim or racing stripes. Aluminum styled accents and tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel are also available. Technology upgrades include a voice-activated and touch-screen navigation system, choice of premium audio systems with eight or ten speakers, Sirius Satellite Radio, and SYNC service with Bluetooth® hands-free calling, voice-activated audio control, and integration with mobile applications.

The 2012 Mustang’s styling is more modern than retro, with an angular, forward sloping power dome hood, wide honeycomb grille, and recessed fog lamps. The Boss 302 features unique grille and fascia, and a Laguna Seca package with front air splitter, red pedestal spoiler, and badging on the faux gas cap. The Shelby GT500 includes Cobra and Shelby badging and racing stripes. A glass roof is available for coupe models, with SPF-50 equivalent tinting for added sun protection. Seventeen-inch aluminum wheels come standard, with upgrades to 18- and 19-inch wheels in painted or forged aluminum available.

The MyKey owner control system is standard on all Mustangs, allowing car owners to set driving restrictions and limit vehicle functions for teen drivers. Dual front airbags, driver and passenger side impact airbags with head-protection are standard, as are four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes and electronic stability system. Safety options include a rearview camera and reverse sensing system for added visibility and awareness in backing up and parking scenarios.

The popular 2012 Ford Mustang gets high marks for V-6 fuel economy, high-performance even at the base level, and quality handling.
