2017 Ford Fusion Energi Exterior

2017 Ford Fusion Energi Overview (See Available Styles)

  • New exterior facelift for 2017
  • SYNC 3 multimedia system comes standard
  • New rotary gear selector dial
The 2017 Ford Fusion Energi is the plug-in hybrid version of the midsize Fusion sedan. Like its gas-powered counterpart, the Fusion Energi underwent a midcycle refresh, which included a revised exterior and an updated center console. It competes with the Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid, Nissan LEAF, and Chevrolet Volt.

Three trims are available: the SE, Titanium, and Platinum.

Overall, the Fusion Energi has a sportier appearance. The revised front-end has slightly curvier headlights and a wider-mouth fascia than the previous iteration. The chrome trim around the grille is more pronounced. Standard features include LED headlights and fog lights, and power/heated side mirrors with turn signal indicators. Available features include a unique mesh grille, a power moonroof, and a rear spoiler.

Under the hood, the Fusion Energi is powered by a standard 141-hp, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor mated to an electric continuously variable transmission (eCVT). It has a 7.6 kWh lithium-ion battery, which can be charged by the standard 120-volt charging cord or an available 240-volt cord. Fuel efficiency for the Fusion Energi is an EPA-estimated 43/41 mpg city/highway. Total driving range on a full electric charge and full tank of gas is an EPA-estimated 610 miles.

The Fusion Energi has three driving modes: the Auto EV, EV Now, and EV Later. The Auto EV mode uses electric power whenever possible, and switches to gas power when needed. The EV Now mode uses mostly plug-in power, while the EV Later mode saves plug-in power for future use such as later driving in residential areas.

Inside, the Fusion Energi has a revised center console. The conventional shifter knob has been replaced with a new rotary gear selector dial. The SYNC 3 multimedia system with an 8-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility comes standard. It can be upgraded with an integrated navigation system and a Sony premium audio system. Other standard features include a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote keyless entry, rear HVAC, push-button start, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel. Leather upholstery, power/heated front seats, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, an automatic dimming rearview mirror, and remote vehicle start are available as well.

Standard safety features include a tire pressure monitoring system, a backup camera, and a blind spot warning system. Rear cross-traffic alert, active park assist, pre-collision assist, pedestrian detection, and lane keep assist are available as well.
