Bob Smith Ford

I am out of state and, in Feb 2019, found a vehicle at Bob Smith Ford through cars.com. I spoke with a sales rep on a Friday, and she was great. She sent me pictures, videos and texted other information. Because the vehicle had been sitting a while, the used car manager called me and said he wanted to run it through another inspection. They were hoping to inspect it the following Monday but their service manager was out sick. They inspected it Tuesday and made one repair. I was working with the manager about a deposit. On Wednesday morning, I called my sales rep about the deposit and she was going to talk to her manager. I received a call Wednesday afternoon from the sales manager that they were ok with the terms of the deposit, but, by the way, someone is test driving it now. I'll skip some details, but instead of the sales manager sticking up for me, he said since I hadn't made a deposit, the owner was showing it to another customer. The customer bought the vehicle. Technically, Bob Smith Ford can sell the vehicle to anyone. After all, I had not actually made a deposit. I think the ethical solution would have been the sales manager call the owner and explain the situation. Instead of "letting down" a buyer who had just looked at it for the first time, they let me down, a buyer who had been working with the dealership for 6 days (and had it not been for the delayed re-inspection due to illness, we would have closed this on Tuesday). I will not buy a vehicle from Bob Smith Ford. To me, my experience at Bob Smith Ford reinforces the notion that they just want to sell a car.
