I am documenting a pattern of disinterest and verified misinformation from Sales Manager Mike during my attempt to purchase a 2025 Ford Ranger (Stock #301310). From our very first interaction, Mike was dismissive, telling me to "buy elsewhere" as he wouldn't be competitive. This was followed by a series of misleading pricing games, including offering only $10,000 for my trade-in (which I had a $15,000 CarMax offer for and later sold for $18,200) and then secretly increasing the truck's MSRP by $525 on a quote to cut an advertised discount in half. The negotiation ended when Mike claimed an "other buyer" was present, refused my offer to place a deposit, and then went silent for days. When I followed up, he claimed he the truck sold. To verify, I had a third party call the dealership just hours later. They were told the 2025 Ford Ranger (Stock #301310) was, in fact, "definitely still available" and that the dealership was "accepting deposits" on it. What's most surprising is that Mike emphasized how "straightforward and honest" Babbitt is on our first call. My experience with Mike was the opposite. I have worked with hundreds of dealerships and have never encountered a manager who engaged in this level of contradiction, culminating in a refusal to sell by falsely claiming the truck was sold. I did not expect a handout, but I did expect to be dealt with honestly. I recommend other buyers get all quotes in writing, verify all numbers, and be highly skeptical of any claims from this manager, and Mike, congrats on keeping your 100+ days on the lot truck.
