2016 Dodge Journey Overview (See Available Styles)

  • Carryover model for 2016 with no substantive changes
  • Simplified trim lineup now includes SE, AWD, SXT, Crossroad, and R/T
  • Optional third-row expands seating capacity to seven passengers
The 2016 Dodge Journey is one of the most affordable midsize crossovers on the market, offering flexible seating options and a simplified lineup for the new model year.

There are now five trim levels available instead of last year’s seven: SE, AWD, SXT, Crossroad, and R/T. SE, SXT, and Crossroad models are offered with the choice of a four-cylinder or V-6 engine, while the AWD and R/T only come with the V-6.

The Journey’s styling is, in a word, understated. In many ways it most closely resembles the now defunct Caliber hatchback, with very upright sides and not much drama from any angles. Up front you’ll find Dodge’s signature crosshair grille, which is different colors/materials depending on trim level. 17-inch wheels come standard with 19-inch wheels optional; also available are roof rails, LED taillights, fog lights, and a power sunroof.

Under the hood there are two engine options. The smaller engine is the base engine, a 173-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder that is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. A more powerful 283-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 is optional and comes mated to a six-speed automatic. Four-cylinder models are front-wheel drive only, if you want all-wheel drive you’ll have to jump up to the V-6.

Inside, the Journey has flexible seating options with an available third-row that is split 50/50 and expands seating capacity to seven passengers. There are also available storage spaces that can be added in the second row floor and even inside the passenger seat on some models. Behind the second-row is 39.6 cubic feet of cargo space in two-row models.  Standard features include air conditioning, Uconnect infotainment with a 4.3-inch touchscreen, USB port, cloth seating, and cruise control. Also available are leather upholstery, heated front seats, remote start, Bluetooth connectivity, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, navigation, and a backseat entertainment system.

Standard safety features include seven airbags (including a driver’s knee airbag), antilock brakes, active front head restraints, and electronic stability control. Also available for easier maneuvering in tight spaces are rear parking sensors and a rearview camera.
