Chevy Sonic is Awesome!

by Chrisjeit52 from Johnston, RI | May 26, 2020

I bought my 2017 Chevy Sonic LT sedan used last year with 45000 miles, what a great car, rides well, plenty of power, nice interior, solid car. Riding in it you can tell its the same chassis as the Buick Encore and Chevy Trax. Its a quiet well controlled ride and handles well too. It does exhibit some road noise but most cars in this class do. Plenty of interior room for me and I'm 6'2" I actually raise the seat up 2 notches and keep it somewhat forward in its track. I get a lot of compliments about it. Mileage is about 32 combined. Given the chance I'd buy it again without hesitation.

Great car handles very well

This car met all of my needs and looks real good too! It’s good on gas and handles very well. The trunk and back seats are Very roomy.

Money pit plain and simple

by Jamespritch from Atlanta,GA | April 25, 2020

This car has given me nothing but problems since purchased . Been in shop multiple times under warranty and to my own mechanic . Same problem every single time and never seems to get fixed . Chevrolet dealership I purchased it from has been very difficult to deal with and honestly not even worth my time or money anymore. GM used to be a good manufacturer but have become bottom of the barrel as far as I’m concerned. I highly suggest avoiding this car and manufacturer for that matter ......

2017 Chevrolet Sonic Overview

The 2017 Chevrolet Sonic is a compact car that comes as either the sedan and hatchback. It competes with the Mazda Mazda3, Ford Focus, and Nissan Versa Note. This year, it receives a new front-end and additional technology.

Three trims are available for the sedan: the LS, LT, and Premier. The hatchback version only has the LT and Premier trim levels.

The Sonic has a new, sporty front-end that bears similar resemblance to the Cruze. The front fascia appears larger and hexagonal in shape for a more aggressive appearance. Standard features include body-color side mirrors and 15-inch wheels. Front fog lights, power/heated side mirrors, a rear spoiler, and larger 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels are also available.

Under the hood, the Sonic is powered by a standard 138-hp, 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic. A 138-hp, turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder paired to a 6-speed manual or automatic is also available for the LT and Premier trims. Fuel economy for the LS Manual model is an EPA-estimated 25/33 mpg city/highway (24/34 mpg for the LS Automatic). It improves to a 28/38 mpg rating for the Turbo 1.4/Manual model (24/34 mpg for the Turbo 1.4/Automatic).

Inside, the Sonic has a standard cloth interior with a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. The center stack features a standard MyLink multimedia system that includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, and a USB port. It can be upgraded with an integrated navigation system, 4G LTE connectivity with a Wi-Fi hotspot, a satellite radio, and a premium audio system. Air conditioning, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and remote keyless entry come standard. Available features include power windows/locks, power/heated front seats, cruise control, and a power moonroof. Both the sedan and hatchback have an available RS Package that includes a unique black trim, a flat-bottom steering wheel with RS badging, optional red cloth seats, and RS logo floor mats.

The Sonic earned a full 5-star overall crash test safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Adminstration (NHTSA). Standard safety features include a backup camera and OnStar Services for emergencies, remote vehicle control, and diagnostics (subscription required). Forward collision alert and lane departure warning are available as well.
