Absolutely Horrible Experience Stay Far Away from Young
Absolutely Horrible Experience Stay Far Away from Young Chevrolet of Layton I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Young Chevrolet of Layton was so appalling I feel compelled to warn others. I brought my truck in to get a transmission quoted. They charged me $370 just to tell me I needed a new transmission—no problem, I expected a diagnostic fee. Then came the nightmare. I spoke with Rachel, who told me the transmission was on backorder and there was no estimated timeframe for when it would arrive. I called the very next day to cancel the order, only to be told I would be charged a $500 stocking fee for canceling a backordered part that hadn’t even shipped. So essentially, I was backed into a corner: pay $870 to get my truck back untouched, or move forward and let them do the work. To make matters worse, I live in an hour way, and was told I would have to physically drive down to pay in person. Rachel claimed they don’t accept personal checks or debit cards and that I would be charged a 2% card fee if I used a credit card all of which turned out to be either misleading or completely untrue as they do accept debit card payments. In the end, I paid $9,000 to get my truck back! Not once did I feel like I was treated with honesty, professionalism, or basic decency. The communication was awful, the policies were confusing at best (and shady at worst), and the whole process felt like a money trap. I would not recommend this shop to anyone, EVER! Do yourself a favor and take your business anywhere else. There are plenty of reputable mechanics out there—this is not one of them.

I purchased my GMC Yukon from Young 2.
I purchased my GMC Yukon from Young 2.5 yrs ago with a service plan. The first service went well, but the day after I left from the second service I experienced a #8 cylinder shutdown. Young took no responsibility for the issue and after repeated attempt to repair the issue I reluctantly brought it back in for them to repair. They told me the lifter had seized up and scarred the crank requiring a $7K crank replacement. After this repair I regularly experience issues that I brought up to them. Back in Oct '24 I started hearing a rear end noise and brought it back in. The rear end had been rebuilt in Dec '22 after an accident. When I brought it in they said the rear end was under a lifetime warranty, but they couldn't see where the ring and pinion had been replaced and felt that was the problem, so they would need insurance to approve a supplemental claim to cover the work. After weeks of working with the insurance they simply gave up and returned the vehicle to me without any work being done and the noise still there. Several months later the noise suddenly got too bad to ignore so I brought it back in. This time I did my own research on the repair and found that the ring and pinion had been replaced (it was clearly stated on the original repair paperwork) and that young never attempted to open the rear end to diagnose the real issue. Their tech felt this time the issue was now a rear end bearing, but they now informed me that the entire rear end that they provided for the earlier repair was out of warrantee as of Dec '24, so even though I brought the vehicle in in Oct complaining of rear end noise and they did nothing at that time, they're now refusing to warrantee the parts. To make matters worst, I brought it to them 3 weeks ago to diagnose it. After getting the run around I decided to pick the vehicle up and have it towed to another repair location. When the tow vehicle arrived the battery was so dead I needed a jump to put it in neutral and Young refuses to replace the battery that they killed. On a good note their staff has been pleasant to work with even thought the company as a whole doesn't seem to value customer service.

Don't go here for service, go to someone you can trust!
Don't go here for service, go to someone you can trust! They offered to finace $16,000 worth of work on a car that is only worth about $3,000. How does that make sense. The majority of the work recommeded was actually completed by a mechanic we know less than a year ago. Don't go here if you have an alternative!
