Hidden fees bad customer service at a snail's pace

I recently purchased a vehicle from Al Piemonte GMC in Elmhurst. My wife wanted a particular GMC Acadia and I was able to find that particular model at this dealership which was approximately 6 hours from our house. I was initially in contact with Stephanie and Shannon in their online sales department. We stated our intention to purchase the vehicle, are preapproved through our credit union, and would be driving down on Wednesday, August 25th. Stephanie emailed and said it's a fast process, we will take the vehicle that day, and that they work with our CU directly. On Wednesday either Stephanie or Shannon actually called my wife to ensure that we would still be arriving that day, my wife told her we would. We arrived at the dealership around 3 PM and asked for Shannon or Stephanie by name, they were not there. We were then sat down with George who seemed to be new. He then told us that the Acadia we drove six hours to get was no longer on the lot and then showed us a screen with four other Acadias we could choose from. We told George that Stephanie told us it was available that day, he looked into the situation and "found it". Great first impression! He said it was being detailed which for them means putting shiny stuff on the tires. I explained to three different people no less than 12 times that we had our own financing and only needed the wire info. We were then given an invoice quoting around $38k which was much more than it should have been. They added a $2,450 "appearance and security" fee which Oscar described as a coating that they apply to all of their vehicles. Why does their website state an "internet price" if they add ridiculous fees to each sale? On Wednesday, August 25th at 11:53 AM, Stephanie had emailed me that the out-the-door price would be $31,988 plus the $303.60 "doc fee" and a $326 "license and transfer fee" and now we're being quoted thousands of dollars more. After going through two more salesmen Oscar finally sat down at our table and said he would email me an out-the-door price. By that time we had already wasted over four hours of our time and were going back to Gurnee empty-handed. Later that night, Oscar did in fact email me a new invoice (attached) although the sales tax was miscalculated for 7% instead of the Michigan sales tax of 6%. He had also reduced the "appearance" fee to $995 and the government fee to $25. According to my calculation the final price, with corrected taxes, should've been $35,305. On Thursday, August 28th, I arrived at 10:30 am, I only needed wire transfer info and to sign the documents. When I arrived I asked for Oscar, he wasn't there. I then asked for George, he also wasn't there. In fact, I never once dealt with the same person over the course of the transaction. My new salesperson was Samantha, we sat down at her desk, re-explained the situation, and expected a quick and painless transaction, apparently this concept is seemingly lost at Al Piemonte. Samantha asked me to email the quote from Oscar, which I did. After about 45 minutes I was then given my third and final invoice which added a $357 title and license fee!? We were told that the finance manager Frank was in a meeting so we had to wait to get the wire info. After waiting for 2 hours listening to Samantha take her workplace harassment training on her computer, she gave me the wire info, my CU sent the wire and Samantha said Frank was now on the phone. As an added bonus, she said that if the wire doesn't clear that day, we won't be taking the vehicle but could sign a secondary contract (they mentioned this about 15 times) which requires another credit check etc. No thanks. After more waiting, we sat down with Frank who said they received the money but I still owe $254 because they miscalculated!? I paid it so I could get out of there. The vehicle also had 1,800 more miles on it than quoted! They couldn't waive the $254 for their negligence and false representation of mileage?

So far so good. Always ready with a friendly greeting. Waiting area always clean. Coffee available if interested. Todd always ready to find out the problem and provides good solutions. Car is always clean when returned.
