2015 BMW 435 Gran Coupe Exterior

2015 BMW 435 Gran Coupe Overview

  • Sedan version of the 4-Series is a new model for 2015
  • 300-hp, turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine
  • Expressive front styling, four-door convenience
BMW adds a pair of models to its expansive lineup for 2015, the 428 Gran Coupe and 435 Gran Coupe (covered here).

While the 4-Series was ostensibly introduced to separate the two-door variants of the 3-Series into their own line, the 4-Series has grown to include a pair of four-door sedan models (even though they’re called “Gran Coupe”) of its own. Up front, the styling is the same as is found on 428 coupe and convertible models, but as you move back the extra pair of doors moves the roofline higher. It still flows backward in a “fastback-esque” fashion and culminates in the short rear deck lid, almost like a subtler version of the of the 335 Gran Turismo. 18-inch alloy wheels are standard, along with xenon adaptive headlights with LED accents.

Under the hood, the 435 Gran Coupe features a 300-hp, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine. This is the same engine that can be found up and down BMW’s lineup, from the tiny 2-Series up to the larger 5-Series and even in a few of the SUV models as well. It is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, and (for now) the 435 Gran Coupe is only offered in rear-wheel drive. Fuel economy ratings haven’t been released as of this writing, but BMW says they should mirror regular versions of the 435, which gets 22/32 mpg city/highway.

While the five-seat 435 Gran Coupe shares the same wheelbase and length/width as the two-door model, added height improves headroom for all passengers and expands interior passenger volume. There are still plenty of standard features; HD radio, Bluetooth connectivity, powered front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, push button start, a power moonroof, and iDrive with a 6.5-inch center touch screen come on all models. Heated front and rear seats are optional, along with satellite radio, navigation, a Harmon Kardon surround sound speaker system, and a Head-Up display.

Beyond the federally mandated antilock brakes and electronic stability system, the 2015 435 Gran Coupe also offers eight airbags, BMW assists emergency communications with a 10-year subscription, and a Front/Rear head protection system. There are also plenty of optional safety technologies, including a surround view camera system, blind spot warning system, front/rear parking sensors, and automatic high-beams.

EPA Fuel Economy

  • City: 20 - 21 MPG
  • Highway: 31 - 32 MPG
