The 2016 BMW 320i is the popular, entry-level compact sedan of the 3 Series lineup. It competes with the Audi A4, Cadillac ATS, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Two trims are available: the base 320i and 320i xDrive.
With its dagger-shaped headlights, sleek body lines, and geometric tail lights, the 320i sedan maintains a sporty, yet sophisticated appearance. Living up to the “Ultimate Driving Machine” moniker, it has an approximate 50/50 weight distribution as well as stiff suspension. Standard features include fully automatic headlights, fog lights, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The optional Track Handling Package includes variable sport steering, M Sport Brakes, Adaptive M Suspension, and larger 18-inch wheels. LED headlights and fog lights, automatic dimming side mirrors, and a power moonroof are available as well.

Powering the 320i is a standard 180-hp, twin turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive (RWD). A 6-speed manual is available at no extra cost. All-wheel drive (AWD) is only available with an automatic transmission. Fuel economy for the 320i with RWD is an EPA-estimated 24/36 mpg city/highway. It drops to 23/35 mpg for the 320i with AWD.

Inside, the 320i offers a driver-centric interior made with upscale materials. Protruding above the center console is the standard iDrive multimedia system. It has a 6.5-inch touchscreen with controls for phone, audio, radio, navigation, and other information. The optional Premium Package includes automatic dimming interior mirrors, a storage package, remote keyless entry, power front seats, a satellite radio, and a garage-door opener. Other available features include leather upholstery, an integrated navigation system, a memory seat, heated front and rear seats, a split-fold-down rear seat, adaptive cruise control, and a heated steering wheel. Dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, push-button start, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and power windows/locks come standard.

The 320i earned a full 5-star overall crash test safety rating from the NHTSA. Standard features include front airbags, antilock brakes, an electronic stability system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a tire-pressure monitoring system. A backup camera and a reverse sensing system for the front and rear is available as well.
