2016 Acura ILX Overview (See Available Styles)

  • Completely redesigned for 2016
  • 201-hp four-cylinder engine is now standard
  • Unique “jewel eye” LED headlights
The 2016 Acura ILX compact luxury sedan gets its first full redesign, adding new styling and new technology inside and out.

For those who have seen the midsize TLX which debuted last year, the ILX will look very familiar with its sharp nose that bears the Acura shield grille proudly. Flanking the grille are headlight clusters that features “jewel eye” LED headlights instead of traditional bulbs. There are five individual elements arranged in a line horizontally that give the ILX a unique look, especially at night. Also new for 2016 is an A-SPEC package, which adds sportier design elements like a rear lip spoiler, side sills, and fog lights.

Under the hood, there is now only one engine option, a 201-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder with direct injection that is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic that is the only transmission option (no more manual option). Fuel economy has actually gotten better as well, improving to an estimated 25/36 mpg city/highway.

Inside, the ILX features updated and new technology including deeper iPhone integration via Siri Eyes Free, which allows the driver to connect their iPhone to the ILX and use Siri voice commands hands-free. On models with the Premium Package added, you can download an app via iTunes that allows the phone to be plugged into the HDMI port and displays the phone’s navigation on the touchscreen in the center console (serving as a stand-in navigation system). Integrated SMS text message functionality also comes standard and works with BlackBerry/Android phones as well.

Standard interior features include Bluetooth connectivity, USB port, dual-zone automatic climate control, powered/heated front seats, and leatherette upholstery. Real leather upholstery is optional, along with a navigation system, HD radio, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Acura also says they’ve reduced cabin noise thanks to added noise-insulation and Active Noise Control technology.

Six airbags, a rearview camera, antilock brakes, and electronic stability control come standard. There is new safety technology available as well for 2016, the AcuraWatch system. AcuraWatch uses sensors to power an array of safety features including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, lane departure warnings, road departure mitigation, and a collision mitigation braking system that can also detect pedestrians.
