2009 Volvo XC90 Overview
As far as midsize luxury SUVs go, it’s tough to find one that is safer, sportier and more stylish than the 2009 Volvo XC90.

Volvo decided to give those who are hungry for power an eight-course meal. A 4.4-liter, 311-horsepower V-8 engine comes in two trims; the V-8 and V-8 R-Design. Those trims compliment the base 3.2 model and its sportier sibling, the 3.2 R-Design. Both come with a 3.2-liter, 235-horsepower I-6, which is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, offering manual gear changes with a flip of the gearshift. The XC90 has a lower sticker price, but is comparable in power and fuel economy to the Acura MDX, BMW X5 and Cadillac SRX. The XC90 gets 13-14 MPG in the city and 19-20 MPG on the highway.

The XC90 is perfect for taking family on long trips as well as to and from school due to 102.4 cubic feet for passengers—all seven of them. There is 8.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats, but if that isn’t enough space, fold down all rear seats and the passenger seat for 93.2 cubic feet.

When it comes to luxurious interiors, the XC90 raises the bar with several exotic wood steering wheels, leather seating surfaces and available Parking Assistance Camera, which displays a view on the navigation screen to show the driver what’s behind the vehicle. The optional Dual Screen Rear Seat Entertainment system features dual DVD players to keep backseat passengers thoroughly entertained. A high-performance audio system features a 6-disc CD changer, auxiliary input jack for your iPod®, and MP3/WMA playback capability.

Volvo is synonymous with safety and the XC90 is no exception. The XC90 has received a Top Safety Pick designation for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for front, side and rear-impact protection. Roll Stability Control, helping to keep the vehicle stable during sudden evasive maneuvers.  Standard side-impact and side curtain airbags, active front head restraints, antilock brakes, electronic stability system and traction control will keep you and your loved ones away from harm. Optional safety features include rear park assist, which prevents rollback on inclines and blind-spot alert that notifies you when you attempt to merge into an occupied lane.

Go big, be safe and enjoy comfort and luxury at a non-luxurious price with the 2009 Volvo XC90.
