2012 Volvo XC60 Overview
As far as compact luxury crossovers go, the 2012 Volvo CX60 provides world-class safety, premium appointments, and several powertrain options that are sure to propel you in or out of town in style.
Like all Volvo’s in 2012, the XC60 receives new trim levels: Premier, Premier Plus, and Platinum, which add on to the existing 3.2, T6 AWD, and T6 R-Design models. The sport-oriented R-Design model adds 25 horsepower and 29 pounds-feet of torque for a quicker, more powerful experience. The XC60 is the smaller version of the XC90 and competes with the Cadillac SRX, Lexus RX350 and Mercedes-Benz GLK-class.
While we’re on the topic of engines, there are several options to choose from. A 240-horsepower, 3.2-liter inline-six cylinder and a low-emissions 230-horsepower version, which is sold in select states, are virtually the same. Next up on the list is a 300-horsepower, turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder followed by the T6 R-Design’s 325-horspower, turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder. All engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and can be had in front- or all-wheel drive.
Maximum towing capacity for the 2012 Volvo XC60 is 3,300 pounds, while the payload capacity maxes out at 4,236 pounds. For an enhanced and specific driving experience, the optional Four-C adaptive suspension system in the T6 can match your mood with Comfort, Sport, and Advanced settings. Fuel economy estimates range from 17-19 mpg in the city to 23-25 mpg on the highway.
Choose between 17-, 18- and 20-inch wheels, and optional exterior equipment such as a panoramic moonroof, power tailgate with memory settings, and adaptive xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights. The T6 R-Design trim adds textured body panels that accentuate the metal finish of the front skid plate, bumper and side scuff plates, dual chrome-plated sport tailpipes, lower air in-take surrounds, and a rear spoiler.
Seat up to five occupants in two rows of optional two-toned color combinations inside the 2012 XC60. Fold down the rear seat for 67 cubic feet of flat-load storage and take advantage of a power driver’s seat and USB port as standard equipment. Heated front and rear seats, leather upholstery, premium stereo system, navigation system and sport seats are optional.
Volvo’s are renowned for their safety and the 2012 XC60 is no different. Antilock brakes, a full suite of airbags, and an electronic stability system are standard. A blind spot monitoring system, pedestrian detection with automatic braking, lane departure warning system, integrated second-row booster seats, higher-speed collision warning system with automatic braking are optional.
Not only is the 2012 Volvo XC60 compact luxury crossover a virtual fortress on wheels, but a good looking and powerful one too.
