2011 Volvo V50 Overview
The 2011 Volvo V50 semi-luxury wagon offers the versatility of a wagon and the peace of mind knowing that Volvo safety is in place to keep whoever you are driving safe, whether it be just yourself or your family as well.
The folks at Volvo simplified things for 2011. The base engine has been discontinued, which leaves a 227-horsepower, turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine as the only option. It is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission and also outputs 236 pounds-feet of torque for adequate acceleration. The 2011 Volvo V50 is similar to the S40 sedan and comes in T5 and T5-R Design trims. All-wheel drive has also been discontinued for this year, leaving front-wheel drive as the only option. Opting for the T5 R-Design trim nets you a sport suspension for a more responsive ride. Fuel economy is admirable at 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Competition in the alternative wagon segment includes the Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen and the Audi A4 Avant.
Just like the S40, the 2011 Volvo V50 features a sculpted nose, a larger logo on the grille, and a V-shaped hood bulge. Mirror-integrated turn signals, fog lights, and 17-inch aluminum wheels come standard, while 18-inch aluminum wheels, a power moonroof, and bi-xenon headlights with articulating headlamps for a full view are optional. The T5 R-Design incorporates optional side skirts, silver grille frame, rear spoiler, aluminum roof rails, and dual chrome exhausts for an upgraded exterior look.
The 2011 Volvo V50 seats up to five occupants, has a maximum of 62.6 cubic feet of cargo space, and can even tow up to 2,000 pounds. A power driver’s seat, unique woven/coarse upholstery, leather-clad steering wheel and shift knob, ergonomically designed seats, eight-speaker sound system with six-disc CD player, USB/iPod compatibility, Bluetooth® connectivity, and push button start come standard on every V50. A power passenger seat, navigation system with Real Time Traffic, heated front seats, and automatic climate control are optional. Along with the upgrades to the exterior, the T5 R-Design adds aluminum accents, and a host of unique interior touches to the mix.
You’re golden when it comes to safety in the 2011 Volvo V50 with standard side-impact and side curtain airbags, an electronic stability system with traction control and an antilock braking system with brake assist. An energy-absorbing interior and frontal structure and a reinforced passenger compartment help keep all occupants safe in case of a collision. A blind spot warning system and rain-sensing windshield wipers are optional.
Be at ease with the safe, efficient and versatile 2011 Volvo V50 wagon.
