2012 Volvo S80 Overview
The Volvo S80 sedan is the flagship sedan of the Volvo S line. It features the comfort and size that you would expect, and contains all the safety features that are part of the Volvo reputation. The S80 puts together a balance of power, handling, and comfort that enhance the driver and passenger experience.
Six trim levels of the S80 are available, three at the 3.2 level and three at the T6 level. With each 2012 Volvo purchased, you receive the Safe+Secure Coverage plan; it features a five-year limited warranty, five-years of wear and tear coverage, five-years of scheduled maintenance, and a five-year roadside assistance program.
Standard with the front-wheel drive 3.2-trim level is a 240-horsepower, 3.2-liter inline six-cylinder that gets 20 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Upgrade to the all-wheel-drive T6-trim level, and you get a more powerful 300-horsepower, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder that gets 18 mpg in the city and 26 on the highway. Both engines are coupled to a six speed automatic transmission and premium unleaded fuel is recommended. An optional 230-horsepower, 3.2-liter PZEV engine is available on the 3.2-trim level as well.
With more rear passenger and trunk space than its S60 sibling, the S80 carries five passengers comfortably along with their luggage. A well designed interior with wood trim and leather wrapped steering wheel, shifter, and brake handle make this a comfortable, functional and elegant looking cabin. Seats are covered in leather and the rear seats feature a 60/40 split fold down feature as well as a rear seat fold down armrest. The rear headrests have a power folding capability as well. Both bucket seats in front are power assisted with a three way memory setting for both the seat and mirrors. A number of features are standard in all trim levels including tilt/telescopic steering column, Volvo Sensus with integrated 7” color display, pollen filter, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth® connectivity, and USB/auxiliary audio inputs.
All models come standard with Dynamic Stability and Traction Control with Advanced Stability Control and utilize Volvo’s Intelligent Driver Information System. The S80 lineup comes standard with dual-stage front airbags, head restraints on all seats, a new Pedestrian Protection system, and a Whiplash Protection System. New for 2012 are turn signal LEDs in the side mirrors.
Volvo continues to be one of the leaders in automotive safety and it continues to innovate and produce some of the safest cars on the road. If you’re in the market for the executive sedan or a larger family car, Volvo’s S80 with its six trim levels has one that will be a fine fit.
