2009 Volkswagen Tiguan Overview
It seems every auto manufacturer is getting into the compact Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) craze, so why would Volkswagen be any different?  The classic German auto giant just unleashed the all-new 2009 Tiguan into the field, blending classic VW style and feel with on-road sport and off-road capability.

The little brother to Volkswagen’s Touareg, the Tiguan is part tiger and iguana—or so the name suggests.  The Tiguan is available in three models; the S, SE and SEL.  Only the S is available in a manual transmission while all three trims come with turbocharged four-cylinder, 2.0-liter, 200-horsepower engines. Somewhat fuel efficient, all three models get 18 MPG city and 25 MPG highway.  Because the Tiguan is built on the same chassis as the Volkswagen GTI, it has the feel of a GTI CUV.

Interior space has been configured to allow maximum comfort and cargo space, and the rear seats can slide forward or backward to accommodate those with long legs.  If you're parking on either an incline or decline, you can activate the electric parking brake with just the push of a button.

The S series comes with climatic manual climate, 16-inch alloy wheels and 2-DIN 8-speaker sound system with in-dash CD player with center console aux-in.  The SE trim is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, silver roof rack, heated seats, Sirius Satellite Radio, and 8-way partial power driver's seat.

The SEL has 18-inch alloy wheels, Dynaudio 10 speaker, 600 watt sound system, leather interior, AFS steerable headlights, rain sensing windshield wipers and 12-way power adjustable drivers seat.  As far as fun options go, the massive panoramic power-sliding sunroof stretches from the front to the back opening up the car to all of nature’s wonders.

Volkswagen takes safety very seriously.  The Tiguan earned a 5-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Program and features anti-intrusion side door beams, which absorb and redirect impact energy.  Six airbags are standard.

Although it may be a bit pricey for its segment, the totally new Tiguan offers exciting new features, distinguished safety and über-stylish design for Volkswagen and car enthusiasts alike.
