2012 Volkswagen Tiguan Overview (See Available Styles)

The 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan compact SUV touts a powerful engine, sporty handling, and is available in front- or all-wheel drive and three trim levels – S, SE and SEL.

The Tiguan was redesigned for 2012 with a new front and rear end and improved fuel economy ratings. While the Tiguan may not have the cargo space available in the Honda-CRV or Hyundai Tucson, its high-quality interior and powerful engine make the Tiguan a strong contender.

A 200-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine delivers power to the Tiguan and with 207 pounds/feet of torque has a towing capacity of up to 2,200 pounds. The S level offers a standard six-speed manual transmission that can be upgraded to the six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic auto/manual, Sport mode, and adaptive Dynamic Shift Performance, which comes standard on all other models. Front-wheel drive is standard on all models except for the highest SEL trim, which has all-wheel drive.

Fuel economy ratings for the Tiguan start at 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The automatic transmission delivers 22 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. The four-wheel drive Tiguan rates at 21 mpg for the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

Tiguan’s spacious interior provides ample headroom and legroom for up to five passengers. Rear passenger seats slide to provide more cargo room or passenger space as needed. Front driver and passenger seats have 8-way adjustable settings and lumbar control, and heated front seats come standard in SE and SEL trim levels. The 40/20/40-split folding rear seat has a one-pull folding feature and backrest adjustment and the front passenger seat folds flat in SE and SEL trim levels for additional cargo storage when necessary. Almost 24 cubic feet of cargo space is available with passenger seat up, and 56 cubic feet of cargo space is available with rear seats folded down.

The base audio system includes an eight-speaker sound system, Bluetooth® connectivity, and an auxiliary jack for portable audio players. Sirius satellite radio, touch screen premium sound system, and a media device interface with iPod cable are available, while a navigation system is offered on Premium trim levels. Keyless access with push-button start is also available for added convenience.

The classy exterior design features body color bumpers and door handles, and available sliver roof rails. Aggressive headlights with LED daytime running light accents frame the chrome grille, and the taillights incorporate a double L pattern design element. Wheel options begin with 16-inch steel wheels, and 16-inch, 18-inch and 19-inch alloy wheels with distinctive design elements are available. A panoramic power-sliding sunroof is available for an open-air experience for front and rear passengers.

Safety highlights include six airbags with side curtain protection, and a B-pillar support structure with safety cage. Electronic stability and traction control, and all-disc antilock brakes provide safe driving, handling and braking. Intelligent crash response disables the fuel pump, unlocks the doors and deploys the hazard lights in the event of a collision.

The 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan delivers powerful driving with sporty handling, a well-equipped interior and a comfortable passenger experience.
