2010 Volkswagen GTI Overview
Offering great fuel economy and power the 2010 Volkswagen GTI “hot hatch” is the budget way to gain performance. The sixth-generation Volkswagen GTI is the suped-up version of the all-new Golf, and is available as a two- or four-door hatchback. Completely restyled inside and out, the 2010 Volkswagen GTI faces competition from Mazdaspeed3, Subaru WRX and Mini Cooper S and is equipped with a 200-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to a standard six-speed auto-shift manual transmission. A six-speed direct shift gearbox is optional and includes launch control, a sports mode and a manual shift mode with steering-wheel-mounted paddles for enhanced performance and handling. EPA estimated fuel economy ratings are impressive for a high-performance car, ranging from 21-24 mpg in the city and 31-32 mpg on the highway. The 2010 Volkswagen GTI features a sport-tuned suspension and sits closer to the ground than the Golf on 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels. New for 2010, an electronic limited-slip control system electronically monitors input from various wheel sensors and, in the event of slippage, transfers extra torque to the wheel or wheels with the most traction. The 2010 Volkswagen GTI’s new exterior start with different front and rear bumpers, dual tailpipes positioned closer to the sides and a rear spoiler. A Thunder Bunny Package adds a front spoiler and rear valance. A new dashboard, door paneling and instrument cluster adorn the inside of the 2010 Volkswagen GTI, which can seat up to five. The GTI features bolstered sport seats in front and a 60/40-split bench in back. A leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, 10-speaker audio system with a touch-screen interface, satellite radio and cruise control are all standard features. The Autobahn package adds a sunroof, a premium audio system, navigation system, leather upholstery and heated front seats. The 2010 Volkswagen GTI is equipped with a suite of standard active and passive safety technologies, including antilock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system. Side curtain airbags and front side-impact airbags are standard, while rear side-impact airbags are available on the four-door GTI. The 2010 Volkswagen GTI hatchback offers a dynamic driving experience and plenty of racing-inspired interior technology at an affordable price.
