Toyota Yaris vs. Nissan Altima Review

The Toyota Yaris and the Nissan Altima can accommodate the same number of passengers.

Performance
Regarding horsepower, the Nissan Altima packs quite a wallop and will knock the Toyota Yaris down a few rungs. On the other hand, bear in mind that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums.

Dimensions
The Altima is tremendously more bulky than the Toyota. Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the Nissan Altima than the Toyota Yaris because of its bigger tank. The Toyota Yaris fits in smaller parking spaces than the Nissan. The Toyota Yaris's shorter wheelbase may produce a less-settled highway ride but a nimbler feel in daily traffic than the Nissan Altima.

Convenience
The Toyota Yaris's fuel tank will need to be replenished more often than the unit in the Nissan Altima.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs about the same to get the Nissan Altima to the dealership as the Toyota Yaris. As far as fuel economy, the Toyota Yaris beats the Nissan Altima. When it comes to gas mileage, the Toyota Yaris and the Nissan Altima don't differ much. The Toyota Yaris is tremendously less expensive than the Nissan Altima as far as MSRP.

Handling
With its tighter turning circle, the Toyota Yaris is most certainly nimbler than the Nissan Altima, something to consider if you do a lot of city driving; on the flip side, remember that a vehicle with a tight turning circle may feel a bit twitchy on the highway.

Drivetrain
The Nissan Altima has a larger engine than the Toyota Yaris. Keep in mind that smaller engines typically get better gas mileage, but a smaller engine usually has to work a little harder. Torque is roughly equivalent to acceleration, and in this respect, the Nissan is tremendously more powerful than the Toyota Yaris. Torque equals pickup, and the Nissan Altima will have picked up and gone by the time the Toyota Yaris finally gets moving.

Comfort
Taller drivers will considerably enjoy the extra head room in the Nissan Altima's front cabin compared to the Toyota. The Nissan is not particularly roomier for your passengers than the Yaris.

The Nissan Altima and the Toyota have the same basic warranty.
