The 2012 Toyota Tacoma midsize pickup truck earns its reputation as a best seller with a great variety of cab styles and packages, so whether you need a pickup for moving furniture or going off-road, the Tacoma has you covered.
The Tacoma received an exterior and interior facelift for 2012, with a new grille design, fog lamp housing, lowered bumper, a redesigned gauge cluster, center control panel, and upgraded audio system. Double Cab models have a new stereo system with satellite radio, Bluetooth®, and USB port. There are also the optional Entune multimedia services, navigation system, and other tech upgrades.
The 2012 Toyota Tacoma is available in three cab sizes, two engine types and a multitude of configurations, and can seat up to five passengers. The Regular Cab is available in a 4x2 and 4x4, the Access Cab selections include the 4x4/Prerunner, 4x2, and X-Runner, and the Double Cab is available in a long or short bed 4x4/Prerunner or 4x2.
Regular Cab models, the Access Cab 4x2, and Double Cab models are available with the 159-horsepower, 2.7-liter, four-cylinder engine, while the 236-horsepower, 4.0-liter, V-6 engine is available on the X-Runner Access Cab. Both engine choices are available for both the Access Cab and Double Cab Prerunner/4x4. Four transmission types are available, including five- and six-speed manual transmissions, and four- and five-speed automatic transmissions, which vary by model.
Packages to customize the Tacoma include a V-6 tow package, Convenience package with sliding rear window, cruise control, steering wheel audio controls and remote keyless entry, and an SR5 Package adding the features of the convenience package with the comfort of a four-way adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, and some added style complements. The TRD Packages – Off-Road, Sport and Sport Upgrade – pack in the power with off-road or sport suspension with Bilstein shocks, 16-, 17-, or 18-inch alloy wheels, custom graphics and a host of functional and convenient upgrades. For the serious off-roader, packages include the Tacoma T|X and T|X Pro, and the Baja racing-inspired TRD T|X Baja Series.
Interior comfort features include fabric- or sport fabric-trimmed seats, four-way adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, and four-way adjustable fold-flat front passenger seats. Added under-seat storage is available in some models with 60/40 split rear seats.
True to Toyota’s reputation for safety, the 2012 Tacoma packs in the standard safety features, including a total of six airbags – including side-seat mounted and front to rear curtain airbags -- for driver and passengers, active seat headrests, and their Star Safety System, including stability and traction control, anti-lock braking, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist and smart stop technology.
