2009 Toyota Tacoma Overview
As a midsize truck for the everyday person needing utility for cargo and hauling excursions, the 2009 Toyota Tacoma fits the bill without the gas-guzzling costs associated with a full-size vehicle.
The Tacoma Regular and Access Cabs come with a base 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that outputs 159-horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. The rear-wheel-drive choice comes with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission, while the four-wheel-drive option only offers a manual transmission. A crew cab (Double Cab) with four full-size doors is also available. Both Regular and Access Cabs come with a 6-foot cargo bed. The Double Cab has a shortened bed for added maneuverability. When properly equipped, the Tacoma can handle towing up to 6,500 pounds.

Tacoma Regular Cabs – aimed primarily for workhorse duty – come fully equipped with 15-inch steel wheels, a limited-slip differential, a composite bedliner, a bed utility-rail system, and front bench seating. The Access Cabs gain air-conditioning and a rear bench with under seat storage. The Double Cab is furthered with keyless entry, upgraded cloth seat upholstery and driver lumbar adjustment for added comfort.
Toyota’s impeccable safety record is one of many reasons for the constant success of its family of vehicles. All Tacoma pickups come with stability and traction control, antilock brakes with driver assist, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and front active headrests as standard. Hill-start assist control (HAC) and downhill assist control (DAC) are provided for four-wheel-drive levels with an automatic transmission for driver assistance – more than necessary with heavier cargo.
