Performance
Regarding horsepower, the Ford Focus packs quite a wallop and will knock the Prius down a few rungs. On the other hand, keep in mind that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums.

Drivetrain
The Ford's engine isn't much more sizeable than the Toyota Prius's. The Ford Focus packs quite a wallop compared to the Prius as far as torque, which is the force that lets you accelerate quickly. The Toyota could learn a lesson or two from the Ford Focus when it comes to torque.

Utility
Neither the Ford Focus nor the Toyota Prius has a marked advantage when it comes to seating capacity.

The Focus's fuel tank will need to be replenished more often than the unit in the Toyota Prius.

While the front cabin in the Focus offers a bit more head room than the Toyota Prius, there frankly isn't much of a difference. The Ford is not particularly more spacious for your passengers than the Toyota Prius.
